Recruiting! Louisiana has way more talent than Oklahoma. You lock up your state and you can contend. Plus Louisiana has no in state competition, that’s what makes it unique compared to a bunch of other schools.

His recruiting is fine. 2022s class is #8 and his 2023 class is #1.

Oklahoma is a true blue blood and they recruit nationally, some of the simps on here think they are limited to getting guys from Oklahoma and Texas

And Norman/OKC is much nicer than Baton Rouge TBH.

LSU will be easier to recruit from since OU will be going head to head with TAM and UT. Plus we gonna make it rain baby.

No doubt LSU is a better program but it’s not like Oklahoma is some lowly 3rd tier school. The upside to me isn’t there for a Riley. He absolutely can stay at Oklahoma and improve enough to cross the final hurdle.

Only way Riley comes to LSU is if he gets a big raise and/or wants out of Norman really bad. Everything else is a wash.

Because when they come the the SEC they won’t be in the playoff and they won’t be winning 10 games automatically and he’ll eventually have to figure out a defense or becomes a second tier program.

It depends on his mindset. Some OU fans believe the move to the SEC will elevate their program, maybe Riley feels the same way. He could always bolt to the nfl anytime he wanted too. Kingsbury’s success is gonna get some of these offensive gurus in college some pro jobs.

But maybe he wants to stay in college and realizes OU just went from first to sixth in the conference pecking order. He can switch schools and be heading the second most likely national champion in the conference.

You gotta think that Riley (and LaMonte) pro-conning this on a whiteboard would be difficult. You'd have to make many assumptions.

You mentioned one of those: Would the move to the SEC help them recruit better, especially on the defensive side, just by being in the SEC? Or would being at LSU have the same effect where it won't when they move?

Will OU be elevated or find itself just under the cream of the crop in the SEC? If OU finds itself 2nd or 3rd in the division year after year what happens to their recruiting?

What's the SEC landscape look like in 2025? And how does that affect elevation vs. relegation?

Impossible assumptions there that the whole question rests upon.

I would add Riley has no "sense of urgency" to make a move. So with so many unknowns and potentially bad assumptions combined with no need (maybe a want, but not a need) while the pro-cons is difficult the risk-reward is not.

Right. OU has landed a recruit from 20 different states in the last 5 years...several from DC as well (including Caleb Williams). They pluck kids from coast to coast. Look at 2022, their two highest rated kids (5 stars) are from FL and CA. In 2023, it's the same thing thus far, CA and FL.

Going into the SEC will help a lot in the state of Texas. Why? Since A&M's entrance into the SEC, they've been able to sell kids that shield. Now, what do they have to sell? A lot of those kids will end up at Texas and/or Oklahoma.

Defensive recruiting is improving and it'll get better as they play better/enter the SEC. It goes without saying that OU will get a recruiting bump joining a better conference.

I won't touch the debate on Baton Rouge/Norman. Millionaire coaches would have a great life in either place.

Lincoln isn't leaving OU unless it's for the NFL.

You're right on all counts, and frankly, I think everyone predicting doom and gloom for OU when they join the SEC is not living in reality.

OU is a monster of a program They are currently on the level between Alabama and every other program in the SEC except Georgia and LSU. Now once they join the SEC and all the recruits in Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, S. Carolina, etc... those kids that WANT to play SEC football, they'll see that OU is an SEC school, not Big 12. OU is going to kill it recruiting in SEC territory. This is only going to strengthen OU, not weaken it. Anyone thinking otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about.

Because people on this board worship him and don't care if he loses every single time he actually plays a really good football team.

Maybe the seven touchdowns in the first half made a lasting impression on him.
