The jury is out on that. Kids in the southeast (outside of Arkansas and Texas which are not really southeast) view Oklahoma as a Midwestern school far from where they grew up.
With the right program and head coach you can be a Tennessee, Notre dame or Oregon and successfully recruit nationally - but, when the playing field is generally equal, you will recruit at a disadvantage to the Ohio, Georgia, or Florida schools that can get a large percentage of their players in state and recruit more regionally.
The risk exists for degrading into a Nebraska if too many of the national and regional players are going elsewhere and your in state talent is inadequate.

I think you also have to look at a world in which Saban is retired. He just turned 70 and I suspect he may be thinking about it by 75. It really is not that far off.
