Why are you the way that you are?

Seems very bizarre to have a guy working under a head coach, yet working for the athletic director. Did that dynamic change when he was rehired?
If he's a "GM," it makes sense that he and the head coach both report to the AD (i.e., "owner" or "president") of the club.

Regardless, you haven't liked any of the explanations so far, so perhaps there's another LSU message board you could troll for answers.

Fat Derek was the obvious one to send packing.

I’m no defender of Austin Thomas, and I thought all the hype about him was silly.

There was the most comical thread ever where people were saying we HAD to keep him at all costs, even if it meant paying him $1 million and making him the AD.

However, he’s been gone for several years and just recently came back.

You can’t lay this shite show at his feet.

Thomas is in no way an O guy. We are trying to get rid of the O culture. AT isn't that

Im asking what his role is and how it changed. When he was originally hired, it was to work UNDER the HC. From what some posters have said, he was rehired by Woodward to work for him and is “his guy”.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to try and find some clarity in his new role and why he was retained by a complete new coaching staff looking to flip the culture.

Just my opinion:

Woodward knew Orgeron was on his way out, and Orgeron likely knew it as well.

He hired Thomas to be his guy in the football office, and someone he could trust to help with the transition.

Now, with tAlignment, I am certain he now works for Brian Kelly and serves at his pleasure.

If he stays, it will be because Kelly interviewed him and likes him and his potential contribution.

the way I understand it

under Miles and O he was the Ops Manager administrator inside the program

under woodward, he is the administrator and liaison between the AD Office and Football Program

He likely had all the knowledge regarding the current recruiting class and contacts. He may get let go later but he has tons of value at the moment.

Wouldn't a GM be negotiating NIL contracts with agents and companies? He sucks at his job if this is what he is supposed to do?

I think his knowledge of the personnel, recruiting base and portal is going to be an asset for Kelly over the next year or so.

If Kelly deems he’s not up to snuff to manage the roster over the long haul then I’m sure he will be given his papers. But Kelly has to get up to speed with current roster and Thomas has all of the knowledge contained.

People seriously need to understand NIL better.
