What’s wrong with this guy? What am I missing? He’s done an incredible job at UAB.

Maybe he is being talked to and it’s just not being reported but really no buzz about him at all.

I kind of forgot about him, but he would be a great candidate for someone.

Memphis has been all about exciting, up and comers, but if Norvell does leave, he would be a good replacement there. Memphis has become a far better job with greater exposure and resources.

I would definitely look at him before Napier.

He's a very good coach. I wonder if South Florida will look at him

I think Memphis will go the coordinator route again. Low risk, high reward. People are saying the current OC/Lead recruiter is probably the next man up.

Because great defense isn't sexy.

It just wins championships.

He was always the fall back option for Auburn if they couldn't land a big name. With Gus being secure he may take the opportunity to jump and prove himself elsewhere. I don't see a P5 job being offered, so the AAC schools being thrown around sounds like the better fit.

There has been some talk of UAB making the jump to the AAC with Uconn bolting. Slick new stadium in 2021, in the best media market for CFB, traditional rival for Memphis, etc. There are a couple of schools who would be higher on the list I'm sure, but if the school did throw it's weight behind a push I wonder if Clark would stick around and see what happens.

I could see that happening as long as that program can prove it will continue to be stable. I would love to see them and Memphis go at it again every year.

ETA: And frick UCONN and their elitism. Crawling back to the Big East is going to hurt them, long term. They will take a big step back in TV money.

Alabama needs to fire Golding and get David Reeves, whether Clark stays or takes another job.

He’s literally never left the state of Alabama.

AL High school coach to JSU to UAB

He had incredible recruiting advantages when UAB went dormant for 2 years. He was able to recruit academically ineligible JUCO guys that other schools were not allowed to bring on. The NCAA froze their roster's eligibility for 2 years while the school got its act together. They played a weak schedule and this year caught a potent Tech offense without its 4 year starting QB due to Tech being Tech.

UAB is probably the weakest CUSA West Champ we've had. UAB should have a solid team next year. Can't hate Clark though, he's stuck through some BS.

I’m beginning to have a feeling he might be at the top of our board sooner than later.

I’m concerned about the fit and the fact he’d need an elite OC for it to work, but his record is hard to argue with

He’s also never been offered SEC money, either.

UAB had a talent lull this year as many of the JUCO guys you mentioned graduated or left after last season, so that really isn't relevant to the 2019 season. Having UAB in the mix to win the west this season was a surprise.

Just getting UAB bowl eligible for every year of his tenure is an achievement by itself. Bringing them to back-to-back conference championship games is truly amazing no matter what the surrounding circumstances were. It's easy to see how he did it, but not everyone is capable of making that happen.

He's also worked in Alabama schools long enough that he can retire with full retirement benefits, and at his pay level the last few years he would receive the maximum monthly payout. He could retire and work in another state while still pulling in a nice retirement check from the state of Alabama without worry of losing his job and needing to find income. It's not head coach money, but the amount he'd get every month is definitely good money.

The fit would be a huge concern.

Clark isn't going to leave the state of Alabama until he's fully vested in the retirement system.

The biggest concern for Clark is going to be his ability to get quality assistants.

I don't think there is any doubt the dude can flat out coach and motivate a team. Down the line I absolutely think he will make somebody really happy.
