UAB lost 35 seniors last year and was picked to finish 4th in CUSA West this year. They played their last three games with a second string QB and still managed to play in the conference title game.

Just getting UAB bowl eligible for every year of his tenure is an achievement by itself. Bringing them to back-to-back conference championship games is truly amazing no matter what the surrounding circumstances were. It's easy to see how he did it, but not everyone is capable of making that happen.

Bringing them to back-to-back championships via obvious recruiting advantages with said JUCOs and older players inside the program, there are a lot of CUSA fans that hated that with a passion. Such bullshite that they were rewarded. No other school was allowed to recruit like that, or to basically redshirt players for 2 years. No AD was touching him with a 10' pole this past year. This year was a weak schedule. If the Lane to Arky rumors are true, Clark will be the luckiest SOB to coach CUSA.

I can't hate the man for staying. However, to overlook the circumstances to their success is being fairly lazy.

He's an incredible coach and I think him staying at UAB has something to do with his retirement. He's been employed with state a long time and is close to a point where he can retire with all the benefits. His retirement will be based on his top 3 salary years of the last 10. He's making a lot of money now, so it makes sense to stay just a little longer to ensure a good retirement. As we know, coaches are hired to be fired so having one full retirement in your back pocket makes a lot of sense.

Cry more.

As for Coach Clark, we have new stadium on the way that will be huge for the program so I don't think he leaves before it opens. Plus he had chances to leave during the shutdown and didn't. After everything he's been through here, I don't see him bolting for the first midtier P5 job that comes along. Not saying he'll never leave, but not yet imo.

This is a lot of crying and begging for an excuse. As someone else said, the JUCOs and upper classmen you mention all left. You're just mad UAB beat y'all with their second string QB.

But hey man, if it is such a huge advantage then you should be begging your AD to shut your program down for 2 years. It's so easy, anyone can do it!

Hasn't moved about much which seems to be beneficial to a coach. Showing what you can do at multiple locations. In multiple parts of America and or multiple levels.

Tech was playing a freshman backup too. And was without their top receiver. And still almost won.

Damn, didn't realize UAB was such a villain in conference USA. They're really going to be hated when they have the best stadium in the conference.

Only to La Tech fans, who have been melting non stop for a while now. Something about Louisiana I guess.

I want Bill Clark at State just as I did when Mullen left. The guy deserves a bigger job.

They are the epitome of “look at me U”. Anyone mentions a university that they feel superior to then they have to chime in and make excuses as to why they “shoulda, coulda, woulda” won.

I wanted Clark at Troy years ago. When Blakeney was declining and before they hired Neal Brown. Brown did a great job and I knew he wouldn’t stay long. It’s just going to be that way at smaller schools with some sustained success. We’ve seen a decline this year with a new coach, but that’s to be expected. Clark has done a great job and could have built something back up at Troy and made it an attractive place for other up and coming coaches.

Very true. Not sure what happened to Troy down the stretch this season, but y’all definitely didn’t look the same by the time the Trojans played Louisiana and Appalachian State.

FIFY

Both teams playing backups doesn't equate to one team having an advantage.

Honestly Clark seems like he should be the top choice for whichever mid-level school loses their coach to the highest profile jobs this year. It doesn't look like Rhule or Campbell are leaving, but slotting into ISU or Baylor or that level would make sense.

Some lower level P5 school should snag him, and I think it'd pave the way for him getting a serious gig in 2-3 years.
