I pretty much shared your opinion re: UAB and Legion Field up until the Rice game. Seeing the crowd on TV was sad. It just seems like there's been a line drawn in the sand with those that refuse to go to Legion Field. Build an on campus stadium or watch the program die.
I don't know what the solution is but hearing people say UAB should either eliminate football or drop down a division (discussed on WJOX Roundtable) is very disappointing when I don't think there's ever been a full commitment to developing a quality athletic program.
Miles, Birmingham Southern, and Samford all have on campus stadiums what does it say that UAB is not allowed to have one?

All are private schools. UAB is not. Big difference.

Downtown is getting better. I work downtown and they have been upgrading several areas. Just look at the barons new stadium. The area around it will grow and draw crowds. They did pretty good this year. I don't know that uab would have the land for on campus but something near campus would do well.

A nice 35k stadium would be good. The North Carolina basketball game was sold out Sunday night and people were actually scalping tickets outside.
Granted, its roughly a 9,000 seat arena,but the point is if they could ever string togethor 2 or 3 good seasons in a row, they might start getting 25k to football.Posted on 12/6/13 at 10:58 am to chalmetteowl

I guess UAB needs to waste tens of millions a year on an average of less than 4 football wins.

There are actual campus needs UAB needs to work on before dropping $75 million on a stadium.

yep... was at UAB this week for the first time in several years and was impressed what they're doing... construction going on currently and several new facilities in the last few years.
as someone mentioned above... the UA BOT has gone out of their way to effective kill UAB football. Not that you can blame them that much... it's a huge money drain.

And it is going to continue now that Dr. Witt is the system chancellor. He is bringing a growth plan similar to the one he used as UA President. A football stadium will wind up being paid for with a large chunk of university money, which the school needs to grow. Those new buildings are nice, but as caused the campus already maxed out parking situation to be even worse.

Anyone who follows C-USA football knew the outcome of that matchup before it started. That's probably why no one was there.

It's not that bad, every university has parking issues. If you're not a fatass UAB parking is fine.
