re: Why did "expert program builder" Napier run away from Auburn?

He turned down the job because Auburn was going to make him keep certain assistants and wouldn't let him hire/assemble his own staff. I'm not a huge Napier supporter but I can't blame any coach for turning that down.

What’s bullshite is you assuming he ran away from the auburn job, just because he didn’t want it.

Auburn was forcing assistants on him - that's why he turned it down.

Auburn has the issue Alabama had with the Good ole' boys running everything and thinking they know how everything should be
Which is how Penn State has been with Franklin he had to beg for money for coaches and facilities
noone wants to have to deal with that shite + have to deal with coaching at this level
Thats what sark is dealing with aswell frick that

quote:Where would Brian Harsin be on your list if he was still at Boise State? Would you have docked him points for passing up openings during his 7 years at Boise State? Auburn ended up with Harsin...why is that? How many coaches turned down Auburn for them to get to Harsin?
Why did "expert program builder" Napier run away from Auburn?
Harsin, by the way, looks like a decent coach...

Like what? He hasn’t proved shite to anybody and I don’t for once believe that. Maybe someone like a trainer or whatever. Not an OC or DC or main position coaches. That’s a complete and utter lie.
Seems to of proved it somewhat this year. He has 7 new coaches on staff and is 6-1. He sustained the same level of success as previous years with an entirely overhauled coaching staff.
Is that not the consistency that we want out of a head coach and leader of a program? The program and process stays the same no matter who comes in and out under you.
Seems to work for the Big Guy in Tuscaloosa too..

Because he thinks he's better than Auburn. That's it. Only people who thought they were being allowed to coach above their league would take that Auburn job with the circumstances of Gus' firing. He was not fired for anything he actually did or on the field. He got backstabbed by Steele and some crazy boosters.

Because he wanted the LSU job and the writing was on the wall for Coach O for anyone with eyes.
He gonna regret that when we realizes he’s not getting the LSU job lol

Explain this to me. For a guy hailed as such a "program builder" cut from the cloth of Saban, why did he run away from a top 15 job in the exact state he was groomed by Saban? And we've been told he was a tippy-top recruiter at Alabama making in-roads all over the state of Alabama and the south where Bama pulled recruits in his time under Saban. Could he not have utilized his recruiting prowess he developed at Bama at Auburn?

“He doesn’t want to take a job that already has immediate disadvantage built in before you play a game,” a person close to Napier told 247Sports.
Why would you fight Saban at Auburn with recruiting disadvantages when you see the writing on the wall at LSU and the plethora of talent just in state in Louisiana?

So tell me how being an "expert program builder" and expert recruiter in the exact area Auburn would recruit doesn't make him the PERFECT candidate for Auburn?
Why would Napier run from a taylor-made position for his exact attributes?
And why can a guy like him be such a job-snob anyways? All sorts of great coaches have wanted and pursued the Auburn job, which is a top-15 job, but Napier is somehow "too good" for it?
Either this guy is completely full of shite and he never was offered the job or Auburn offered the job and he decided wasn't capable of building the program, which is strange for a hailed program builder.
If Napier turned down the job he admitted with that action he's not a program builder, at all.

They didn’t want to give him full control over the staff hirings and firings so he said kick rocks

I’m not even pushing Napier, but this post is one of the stupidest I’ve ever fricking read on here. The complete lack of self-awareness and logic is mind-boggling
I’m with you. If people that stupid are anti Napier; he’s clearly the smart hire.
Posted on 10/27/21 at 10:20 am to tiggerthetooth
It’s all hearsay about the Auburn job. I’m sure they talked to him about it. Auburn has been in a bad spot recently. I wish these topics would stop with Napier. He isn’t getting the job and probably won’t even get a phone call. The people on her bashing coaches who have proven success in major programs then clamoring for Napier as if he’s somehow a top choice crack me up. It just isn’t happening.

Yep. And I haven’t read all the posts on CC, but I’ve seen few if any cogent arguments for another coach from the most aggressive anti-Napiers. It’s been only generic, lazy bullshite.

He asked them a simple question:
Are you the Tigers, The Plainsmen, or War Eagles.
Everyone in the room just looked at each other...

Auburn isn't a top-15 job.

Yes it is. Most people, like 90%+ would rank Auburn within the top 15.
USC
Texas
Bama
LSU
Ohio St.
Michigan
Texas
Texas A&M
Florida
Georgia
Oklahoma
Oregon
Clemson
Auburn is behind this group. At the least they're right outside of the top 15.

Did Napier frick your wife or something? You're seriously obsessed.
