The question was asked which job was better.

Andy absolutely tore him to shreds this morning. Rick's only argument was that "when USC is right, it's as powerful as any program in the country, therefore it's the better job"

I have to admit that it made me chuckle.

USC is a shite job at the present time.

Until the Athletic Dept is reorganized.

LSU is a better job but I’m surprised the media narrative has finally shifted to accept this. Historically the love for SC has been nauseating.

Now is a good time to remind everyone who coached USC into the gutter from which they never returned: Lane Kiffin

False. The NCAA's wrath, and USC's own administration put them in the gutter.

NCAA sanctions and Sark being wasted at practice didn't help. And Kiffin has since grown up a ton and admittedly learned how to run a program from Nick Saban.

He isn't in my top 5 of candidates, but I wouldn't be too upset either.

Well, the current situation goes back to Pete Carroll. He evidently did a number on the administration. Its totally dysfunctional.

People just forget that LSU won a National championship while USC “was right.”

Exactly. LSU won that NC in 2003. It wasn't USC and it wasn't a "split championship."

It was Pete Carroll’s actions way more than Kiffin. Kiffin had to deal with a 30 scholarship reduction.

There are a lot of potential similarities with USC and LSU. It’s a cautionary tale that I hope we recognize before it happens.

The USC job could be really, REALLY good:

1. It is in a metro area with numerous good football prospects

2. Much like the ACC and Clemson, the Pac 12 is a relatively weak conference that is primed for a powerhouse to dominate. If you are the HC at Penn St. you know you have to beat Ohio St. every year to make the playoffs. If you are at LSU you have to be Alabama. A good USC could pretty much pencil themselves in to the Pac 12 championship game much like Clemson generally can in the ACC

3. The expectation levels aren't insane like in the SEC. Just in the SEC West alone, Alabama, LSU, A&M and Auburn fans EXPECT their teams to challenge for the conference championship every year. However, with those 4 teams playing each other SOMEONE has to lose those games...which are unacceptable to the fanbases.

4. NIL is here and it will be a recruiting tool. That said, there may not be a better place in the country to establish your "brand" than in Los Angeles

The downside is that locally, USC football (and college football in general) is overlooked. The NFL is back in LA. The Dodgers and Lakers will ALWAYS be the primary sports interest of the city. And while college football might be the biggest event in Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa, on a fall Saturday...it's kind of a blip on the radar in Los Angeles.

Still, if you get a guy in who can start winning big AND has the personality to embrace the entertainment aspect of LA, it could be a TREMENDOUS.

They didn’t give one frick about losing NFL teams.

They told the NFL to frick off.
(Probably the only thing I respect LA for)

It took a zillionaire and NFL money to buy a stadium

And Goodell cheating to beat the Saints…

The NFL would have done anything to get a team in L.A.

In the days of Reggie Bush and good QBs they were the ticket in L.A.

Imbeciles win NCs at LSU. It doesn't take being "right" to win here.

That is what makes it a better job.
