The only reason was for early enrollees to be on campus in January to be at spring practice in March.

2 coaches in the CFP bailing should do the trick. That said, the media loves the ratings drama that this drawn out process creates.

I really think they do this to try to keep the teams equal..
They don't want one team to be more overpowered. That's why they do the transfer portal during the college world series.
