Florida reached and made a rash decision. It may work out, but they took a huge risk.

If SC really gave him 15M per, I am relieved we walked away or didn’t match. He ain’t worth that. No national titles, no national title appearances, despite 2 HTW and a finalist? Good luck on the left coast…

He better dealed us. Pac 12 easier than SEC.

Was never on the radar like people think. Didn’t want anything to do with the SEC. he saw 3-4 losses a year in the SEC. that’s what turned him away.

No. We got played. Anything else is damage control.

LSU higher ups literally told recruits and donors it would be Riley. They are just covering their own arse now and ranters are coping with it. Believe me or don’t, I don’t care.

Potential coach to USC or UF: ‘So what can you offer me that LSU can’t?’

USC and UF to literally any potential coach: “Well, they’ve fired the last 2 coaches that have won them championships - the last one literally 2 years later.”

Potential coach: “hmmmmmm…. Yeah… That doesn’t really appeal to me.”

Nothing unique about this theory or anything you’ve said, the exact thing has been repeated over and over ad nauseum over the last 12 hours or so.

And yes that’s my theory too. But again, if it’s wrong we are really in a horrible spot.

Yes, agree on everything, but much of the “sky is falling” mentality is over losing Riley to USC. If Riley was never a true candidate, that changes everything. Several think Scott wanted Riley so we passed on Napier. What we are saying is that the true target is out there, so trust SW to finish the job.

now the new target is coaching because there is nobody left.

Nobody is left? Didn’t know the list was Riley and Napier only.

His agent stirred everything up to create the smokescreen he needed for USC.

This same smokescreen helped SW as well.

Lol. The only way this helps SW is if he has someone MUCH better than LR. Otherwise, everyone will feel let down. When you do a smoke screen, you should sand bag the fan base. Leak that you are going for Bill O’Brien then sign Napier or Aranda. Then everyone thinks you are a genius. But elevating everyone’s expectations to a Riley-level hire means that everyone expects someone on his level or better.

Think it was more emotional. I think he had a deal with Scott. Got mad when word leaked out (resulted in things like Callin Baton Rouge, follows on Twitter), culminating in an emotional reaction post game, followed by a late night deal with USC because he truly wanted out of Norman.

This isn’t Scott’s first Rodeo, he seems to have been very confident he has his guy.

SW didn’t elevate Riley, Riley’s agent did that. SW’s team has pushed out names like BoB and Stoops. Riley’s name is bigger and got the attention.

While I agree with your premise, it wasn’t SW using Riley as a smokescreen, it was Riley using LSU.

I think we really wanted him but got played. It’s the simplest explanation. Objectively it’s what you would conclude without the purple and gold glasses. Let’s be honest with ourselves.
