Mutual interest, and perhaps a phone/zoom interview. That is it.
I don't think LSU considered him a serious candidate, and I don't think Riley seriously considered LSU. Maybe he wanted out of the SEC. Maybe SW got cold feet due to a shaky interview. Probably a combination of both. The smoke was likely all agent driven to push for an escape hatch (USC) to come hard for him.

So, LSU moved on, and likely weeks ago. We only heard about this recently because his agent knew the LSU deal was off and wanted to generate more $$ for his client from USC.

My theory is that LSU has their guy, and he is currently coaching.

He wanted a clear path to CFB every year, LSU can’t offer that. Also 15 mil a year

What happened is Woodward thought he had Lincoln in the bag but USC pushed hard at the end and we whiffed. The call was made late last night.

There’s also 90 million things to do in LA. USC football is merely ONE of them.

He averages 10-2 every year, with the odd Rose Bowl appearance, he’s golden.

His agent stirred everything up to create the smokescreen he needed for USC.

This same smokescreen helped SW as well.

Some coaches and players like to compete at the highest levels. Others want an easier path. If that is the better deal for him, I am glad we did not land him.

I think Riley led us on for leverage with USC and as a bonus got some payback for us bending him over in front of the whole world in 2019.

He wanted no part of the SEC.

Nothing unique about this theory or anything you’ve said, the exact thing has been repeated over and over ad nauseum over the last 12 hours or so.

And yes that’s my theory too. But again, if it’s wrong we are really in a horrible spot.

I see this all over tCCB, but there is no evidence we went hard after Riley. There was smoke, but if you followed the national guys there was never interest in Riley coming to LSU. And this was a week before the game on Saturday.

It was mostly agent and fan driven.
