Oyster that is the best post I've seen on this whole site in a long, long time. I wholeheartedly agree.
And what did Joe Alleva propose in front of the LSU Board just yesterday? Higher ticket prices for football and baseball. Reasons cited? Escalating coaching salaries and upgraded facilities.
We have 8 football season tickets on the 30 since 1948. Mine will be subbed out next year. I'm just not interested anymore.

This whole escalation is just getting to over the top. I love going to games and love college ball in general. The last five years or so I just feel like I'm constantly getting squeezed. Some how the money grab has taken away the excitement. TS just isn't what it was.

I disagree. I think that CNS at very least agreed to listen to them after Mack resigned.
I also think that Mack got pissed when the media show started and he dug in his heels. Mack wants to control his exit and he wants to control who succeeds him. He does not want Saban.
The arrogance of the Texas boosters goes up and down with the price of WTI. Let's just hope that oil takes a big down turn the next time this happens.

As much as it kills me to admit it, I agree with local radio sports guy, Charles Hannegriff, who said months ago, that Saban would not go to UT.
His reasoning was that Saban would not have the control he has at Bama, especially when dealing with LHN.
Add to that the political infighting between the Regents and Rick Perry, who would want to go there?

The report here is that when the early word of Mack resigning hit the media before he was ready, he got pissed and dug in his heels. Evidently he was able to fight and delay long enough that Saban had to make a move on his Bama contract.
I think there was a deal there back at the beginning of the week for Saban to go to UT. UT wouldn't fire Mack and couldn't get him to step down so Saban took the best offer he had - the $2m raise from Bama.

I disagree Saban got a lot to stay, but there is no job opening at Texas. Mack went back on a deal to resign so no opening.
Texas did not want to be like Nebraska firing a winning coach.
Now if Mack looses 2 games in the regular season next year he will be fired.
In a way I'm glad, I really didn't like the idea of Saban at Texas it could have resulted in a cruise to the Championship for the Longhorns. Which along with Notre Dame thinks way too higly of themselves.

Saban never had any interest in the Texas job. Sexton used it as leverage in a new deal. Just like Les used Arkansas last year as leverage. UT on the other hand, is fricked. They've continuously dropped the ball, from creating the Longhorn Network in the first place, to wreaking havoc in parity of Big 12 pay and pushing A&M out the door. That program is currently in one of the most epic free falls that the sports world has ever seen. Their arrogance is unprecedented. They're somehow going from being one of the most glamorous football programs to turning into Rice over the course of a decade. It's a very bad time to be a Texas fan right now.

One would think that LSU fans would know Saban a helluva lot better. After spending five years with the guy, you should know what a power and control freak Saban is. Saban didn't just wake up one morning this week and realize what a cluster frick the Texas administration and regents are. In spite of what Sexton may have said months ago, there was no way in hell that Nick Saban was ever going to go work for those people.

Well, that was assuming Mack was going. That soap opera at UT is going to be a pain for a long time.
I just don't see Saban leaving the set up he has at Bama for that mess. Too many Chiefs at UT.

Nothing "caused" him to re-sign. It was his intention all along. He and Terry had been saying it for months, no one just wanted to listen. Bama was going to up his deal all along.
It's just sad that Mack has to endure all this. Say what you want about the last few seasons he's had but he doesn't deserve what's happening.
