What exactly happened to get Saban to re-sign?

Does anybody have a guess?
Did Mack earn an extra year? Did Texas hold out too long on firing Mack and Saban grew impatient? Or did Nick just see what a shite-show Texas athletics was and realize he'd be better off in total control at UA? I think this effectively ends ALL current and future Saban to Texas rumors.

I would say yes to all of the above. Plus he actually meet a few of the UT guys and the thought of dealing with them the rest of his life made him nauseous

I think Mack stood his ground, ego fortifying his resolve to go out on his terms and a dislike of Saban once word got out.

He was going to re-sign from the beginning is how I have felt throughout this entire ordeal.

He watched this clusterfrick of a week for UT football. I wouldn't work for Texas for $50M a year if it meant putting up with that bullshite and if I could get ~$8M a year at Alabama.

At Bama Saban does what he wants, when he wants. He doesn't want to be on somebody else's watch. Bama is the better job for Saban.

The new chancellor at Bama had a set down with Nick, and acknowledge that Satan was in fact the most important person at bama and his master and could do whatever the hell he wanted from now on.

This is what happened-he and his agent played their cards and got Bama to bite. 2 million a year raise. He was not leaving but he was not going to blow his cards. He could have put this to rest weeks ago!!!

The length of the contract Texas wanted. If you want to label it "Texas arrogance", so be it. What is the point of signing over your program to someone you know isn't interested in meeting the time requirements you feel are needed?
