Why would anyone turn down UF?
One of the top five jobs in the country. Too much pressure?
The pressure of that job will kill a man.

It'll be interesting to see what type of offense they run.

the msu insiders said mullen was approached by Foley saying if we offer will you accept on the spot. then they go from there i guess. muschamp must have been the only one to jump on it and say yes. that way you can't get officially turned down by anyone.

AUSTIN, Texas -- A person familiar with the decision says Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has accepted an offer to be the head coach at Florida. SEC blog Low ESPN.com's Chris Low writes about all things SEC in his conference blog. • Blog network: College Football Nation ' Muschamp, who just finished his third season at Texas, where he was the head-coach-in-waiting to succeed Mack Brown, replaces Urban Meyer at Florida. The person confirming the move spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak in advance of a formal announcement later Saturday night. Sources told ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach that Muschamp was the only person Florida interviewed.
Hard to believe

why did 1-3
Stoops is set where he is. Historically, Oklahoma is a better program than Florida. Going to Florida is a lateral move at best
Petrino, who knows if he was even offered. Dude is such a shyster with zero loyalty to anyone but himself, that the higher ups at Florida may not have wanted to touch him. I would not be surprised if he leaked the info just to get a raise
Mullen is the one that confuses me.
No way am I going to believe that Muschamp was the first and only choice

Not really. Remember they may have reached out other candidates who told them they werent interested

As I have already posted, Peterson is not leaving Boise.
and harbaugh's next job will be as a NFL head coach

petrino's buyout is a big issue
i doubt he has $6M liquid
UF can't pay the $6M, or that's an extra $6M in income to petrino that he has to be taxed on

i will almost guarantee that was the extent of the interview
here is mullen's problem going to UF
he HAS to be urban meyer 2006-2009 or he will be run out of town

like i said, if expectations drive people away from UF Mullen knows that better than anyone.

right
and i'm not sure Dan is the recruiter meyer was, and he probably knows that.

Definitely those three.
Everyone in America is laughing at Foley's lie saying WM was 1st choice. Even with the quick landing of a HC. As all knew Foley had to ask Urban to stay at least one more..thus Foley had to have his list..and be back-channeling for contingency even if UM sprung it on him again by surprise last week..which I doubt was a surprise to Foley.
I think Muschamp provides Fla a free-swing of rebound-guy..he'll either be a rockstar..or Zook 2.
If WM flops, Foley for landing Meyer and his two BCS titles, earns him a get-out-of-jail-card.

This is what positigers try to explain to the people who hate Les but they never listen.....Muschamp may be a great HC but there is no way of knowing that.....People hoping that Les leaves are ignorant....
And so UF hiring Muschamp may hurt LSU more than any other team.
No matter what happens with LSU's football team, there will always be this argument.
Maybe we should increase Miles's buyout to $100 million.

that's horrible logic
at least in the short term, and maybe in the long term (if Muschamp turns out to be a Zook), LSU benefits more from this hire than any other SEC team.

Following the legend is a stitty situation. Ask Zook, Perkins, Devine, and Les. Will we never please the Gator nation. 4 years and out.

What family problems? The fact that his son had a brain tumor 11 years ago? The only reason Peterson won't go anywhere is the quality of life in Idaho.

quote:"Interviewed" is NOT the same as "contacted" or "considered." It's slick word parsing of the highest degree to put it that way.
Muschamp was the only person Florida interviewed.
Nobody else Florida considered or contacted agreed to an interview. It's just THAT simple!

Agreed. The statement that Muschamp was the first call and only person interviewed is the kind of BS that reeks of panic and destroys credibility.
Mullen was the slam dunk replacement here. Few AD's have the luxury of having such a close fit waiting to fill your HC job. And after Meyer's first resignation a year ago and the five losses this year, Foley should have anticipated this and finished the negotiations with Mullen's agent long ago. Why this didn't happen is the big question that Foley will not be able to escape.
Ultimately Foley's job depends on this placement working out. And by 'working out', we mean meeting or exceeding Meyer's track record. Unfair? You bet. Welcome to the real world.
And where will Meyer be for the next four years? Sitting in Gainesville giving interviews of the "What do you think of Muschamp's decisions?" and "When will you consider getting back into coaching (the Gators)" variety? Oh yeah, that will help.
Don't forget, this exact situation has happened before with Foley at UF. He replaced coaching legend Spurrier with Ron Zook, an assistant with no head coaching experience. He got a Mulligan for that hire, he won't get another one.
