It's a top tier coaching job. It's just not a place where you are going to regularly steal a coach from a top 10 program to come here

Exactly what I said and I will add...no other school is going to steal a top 10 coach either unless they are miserable or have ties to the program

Rich Rod was bama’s first choice when they hired Saban

Couple things. 1st Rich Rod was taking the job until his wife was insulted. Story was told by Rich Rod. 2nd Alabama was not a top tier job at the time. It was in desperation mode.

Why do you guys think all of these top programs like Ohio State in Oklahoma are hiring from within? Like we should’ve done with aranda? Because that’s the way to go these days. People don’t pull people from top programs. It just doesn’t happen.

It certainly is a top job. People think that means we can go anywhere and steal their wives. That's not the case for any program.

If you look at coaching hires every round, they're full of guys with resumes like Matt Campbell, Stoops, and Napier. You're either hiring from lower P5 or upper G5. Why do we all of a sudden think we're above that? That's where Urban and Saban came from at one point.

Programs don't go after coaches enjoying a lot of success because they're next to impossible to land. It's a waste of time because it's time that could be spent on a candidate that's far more likely to sign. TAMU only got Jimbo because FSU had the nightmare season.

I agree. I’ve never thought we were pulling Riley. We should have been on Aranda, Napier and Kiffin

O got fired because he deserved to be fired.

What’s the fricking alternative?

Let him keep coaching the team next year.?

It’s been so hard to pull in a coach because we’re not as top tier as we think we are

What you don't understand is being a top tier job doesn't mean any coach the message board wants will just hop on board. There are a million and one reasons why someone may or may not take a particular job. What makes LSU a top tier job is the potential and the resources. We pay top dollar and you have everything you need to win at a high level. That is simply a fact

You can make a lot of money and win titles. OTOH BR has a shitty quality of life, the university is dysfunctional and the fan base is unhinged.

OK then. The point is, just because you can’t pull a top guy from a top program, doesn’t mean that you’re not a top program yourself. Or a top tier job. It’s just next to impossible to pull off.

Anyone that has the potential to pay their HC upwards of 10mil is top tier. Don’t kid yourself.

It’s not LSU it’s the shithole that is the state of Louisiana and Baton Rouge that holds us back

If our last three coaching hires end up being Les Miles (28-21), Ed Orgeron (22-29), and Mark Stoops (58-53) with three different ADs, I can't disagree with you.

Les Miles and Coach O both won national titles here. If winning titles and making a ton of money is important to a coach, then LSU is clearly a top tier job. And that was after Saban won his first NC here.

I think lsu is a great job but i would def think twice about living in baton rouge when other options are out there.
