Could Haslam want Gruden for the Browns instead of the Vols?

You'll probably end up with Hoke

Fuentes isn't leaving VT after two years for UT.

I agree. Tennessee is a better job than VT, but not enough to justify uprooting your family after only 2 years. Not when there’s no real local recruiting base and you have to play Bama, Florida, and Georgia every year. Unless they offered him a ridiculous amount of money that VT was unwilling to get close to.

No love for Matt Campbell?

Not at the price of his buyout. He'll stay where he is until that goes down.

Hoke is the only real candidate. Current D line coach and interim HC. Former head coach at P5 school and a strong recruiter. This is a no brainer.

Oh wait, that's an absolutely absurd check list for hiring a head coach and face of a major college football program

It's going to be Tee Martin. He came to Tennessee once for a Ford Explorer, this time they'll give him an Escalade.

If we fricking hire Greg Schiano I am done giving this program my money

Tennessee could do a lot worse than Schiano.

I was at Rutgers when the program turned the corner, including the win over Louisville. There is no SEC equivalent to how far behind Rutgers was when Schiano arrived, or how far they had to go to be respectable.

Schiano is an excellent program builder. He could win 7-8 a year at Rutgers; I'm pretty sure he could win 8-10 a year at Tennessee. He'll recruit well, run a clean program and win some big games.

Tennessee could do a lot worse than Schiano.

If you can't get the home run hire, focus on getting an RBI double.

Justin Fuente, Virginia Tech Head Coach

Would be my first pick from that list. I don't know that he would leave Va Tech though. He seems to like it there.

Greg Schiano, Ohio State Defensive Coordinator

He did a hell of a job at Rutgers once upon a time and has been good at OSU. Not a flashy hire but not bad.

Dan Mullen, Mississippi State Head Coach

Mike Norvell, Memphis Head Coach

I like Norvell but i would be nervous that he is just riding the wave off of Fuente's success. He has not proven to be a program sustainer yet.

Your best bet is to go the LSU route, and keep Hoke.

I see Schiano and Norvell as being the only realistic names on that list.

Not sure Id be thrilled with either one of those guys.

A guy I like a lot is Frank Wilson at UTSA. It would be a pretty big gamble for UT but I think he's a future star.

If y'all hire Jon Gruden it will be a colossal mistake. It will be like Nebraska with Calhoun or Notre Dame with Charlie Weis.

Why is Gundy not on the list?

He'd be one of the first calls I'd make.

He interviewed at UT when Butch got the job and has done an amazing job at OSU

I know he went to OSU, but he has a senior heavy team and can't do much more there. I think now is the perfect time to make a move.

Phil Fulmer fills in the interim while they take their time in hiring the perfect fit even if it takes a year. That's my guess.

Wilson was at Tennessee with Kiffin. They wouldn’t go that route.
