We’ve been assuming not having OC and DC filled by signing day is a bad thing but do we know that as a fact? I know this site well enough to know some will curse me and say “yes” without really knowing. The rest of you think about it: for every kid who likes the hire there will be another who doesn’t. The vacancies forces the kid to focus on the HC and the school and for the first time in a long time that is enough.

I can’t tell if we just tell ourselves this to cope, but I have thought about this and kind of agree. The recruits most important relationship is with the head coach. Assistant coaches, particularly coordinators, are always leaving for promotions and new opportunities.

It's not ideal. But not the end of the world either.

All you have to do is show the recruits how much turnover occurs at OC and DC when programs have success. None of them are going to have the same coaches for 3-4 years.

Yes it matters. Kids want to know what scheme they will be in, how they will be utilized, etc. A HC can tell you what he wants but if he doesn't have someone in place to execute it there will be a doubt of if they are just bullshitting you or not. Furthermore, it's not like we are just missing an OC and DC we are missing almost every other coach on staff.

This year will be a down year even if we had staff in place already, but not having staff in place won't help that's for sure. So yes coordinators are very important in terms of bringing high level talent, and not all coordinators just jump ship after one successful season.

Yeah. I think we’re all just itching for to know is all. I don’t think it’s that bad of a thing and I think Kelly is smart enough to spin it in a positive way.

I really feel like we have our OC and DC and the people who need to know do know. Think we get them announced after esd.

People say this yet nothing actually indicates this to be true.

Isn’t there a rule that when you don’t have a coordinators the HC can do more direct contact?

Also, there are a lot of schools out there without coordinators.

Well hopefully have them before the normal signing day.

It's something to do with having less than the max number of assistants. But we still have a full staff since O's scrubs are still here to coach the bowl game.

There once was a time that kids committed to a school, not a coach. If that's what we're asking of this signing class, I'm fine with it. Just add it to another piece of changing the culture. Kelly obviously is going to be recruiting kids that will fit in with what he wants to run.

I believe so and Miles would always exploit by naming coaches late. Hopefully Kelly is doing the same. He’s probably telling them who we’re getting.

We already have a full staff because of the bowl game this doesn't help Kelly at all.

Why do people think we have hired either coordinator, haven't announced it, but yet we are telling 18 year old kids who live on social media who the hire is? You really think they're going to keep it a secret?

Idk but I’m guessing Kevin Faulk was wrong when he told whoever that they were supposed to make the OC announcement today.

I think if Kelly felt it was super important then he would have hired someone already. Obviously he wants to see what the coordinators are like in the bowl before he decides on keeping them or not. Maybe he wants to run the same offense we already run so he’s going to watch them in the bow game and see if he feels they can Handle the job with his help

Ummm...what?? You don't think he has already evaluated our current coordinators based on the entire season we just had and interviews with them?

So Kelly will change his offensive scheme to fit LSU's and maybe keep Peetz as our OC and help him out? Man this board has a creative imagination.

This seems valid by seeing all the current coordinator changes (leaving for other jobs) at other programs and seeing little to no mass exodus of recruits from those schools.

Only the head coaching changes making the biggest impact. See Oregon, Florida and OU.

True except we have a new HC and no real support staff in place. Most of those teams who lost coordinators have established HCs in place and the systems on either side of the ball have been established so the consistency from one coordinator to the next is there.

so I would say LSU is further behind than most because of the new HC and not much staff in place, but the fact we have Louisiana to recruit from which will help keep us more stable in recruiting than those other programs you listed that lost their HC.

If you can sell the kids that aren’t planning to enroll early to at least hold off on signing until February, it is not as big of a deal as some make it.

This was why some felt the early signing period was stupid. It puts kids in a position to sign in the middle of massive coaching changes. It was always a flawed idea that was only put in place in reaction to some kids getting their offers pulled last minute. Kids can still early enroll without signing early, which is how it should have stayed.

Yeah, it's a tough one.

If you're an incoming 4* linebacker and you're not sure of your defensive coordinator is going to be Mike Elko or Bo Pelini (just examples, don't bust my balls) then I can see how an 18 year old stud football player would be apprehensive.
