It's a stay of execution.

Sad. I don't know what they're doing.

CFB is better when USC is relevant. They're not getting back to that anytime soon with the 76th rated recruiting class. I don't even know how that pathetic of a recruiting class is possible with their prestige.

I like getting Cali recruits in the meantime though.

Takeaway if true: They tried to get Meyer, Stoops, or some other big named coach, but failed. USC is now completely irrelevant in college football.

It would be hilarious if Helton stepped down now. Because I guarantee they did what another poster said. They reached out to Urban, Bob and a few other big names and were turned down. If Helton left now they would be fricked

That'd be a blessing in disguise for them. That way they'd be forced to move on.

What does Helton bring to their program at this point if recruiting has fallen off this much?

This is awesome news and shows that usc has a moral backbone

Helton is maximizing output with what he has to work with

Next year he will take them to playoff

I don’t think this is accurate.

When you imply the dude is toast all year with no plan for what's ahead that will get you the 76th recruiting class.

If they don't have a line on someone for next year that they are extremely confident about (and I highly doubt that is even possible to plan for) this is just asking for trouble either way the season goes.

I think just putting him out of his misery and moving on is the better move for both sides. The damage has been done. At this point, they're just prolonging it by keeping him. Problem is they're delusional about who they can get at this point.

They should be looking at Fleck, Whittingham, Rhule, coaches like that.

USC is a historically elite program. This makes no sense, they can do so much better.

Seems they have been contemplating firing this guy for 5 season now ... hes gonna be one of these guys where they give him another year vote of confidence and then fire him 2 games in

This reeks of monetary issues. Can’t remember who’s show I heard it on because it was at night and I’m usually not listening to the radio at night but someone was talking about the USC situation a couple months back and said money could be an issue. Not money to hire a head coach but that it was getting harder and harder to get assistants and these newer shadow staff types to go there. The living situations for assistants and their families on their size salaries isn’t what it was just 10 years ago and this guy was saying that it’s a real problem for all the Cali football programs. Don’t know if he was right but it’s hard to find any other logic behind USC keeping Helton.

Thank God

I was worried if Urban Meyer was coaching USC we might go 8-4 next year.
