Hoke is absolutely, positively, the last possible resort and I agree with the other Michigan posters on here, it will not end well if its the case. The media has taken his name and ran with it. Love hearing on ESPN "he'd be a great hire" ya until we hire him and then they are like "WTF was Michigan thinking?" And lets be honest, if Hoke had NO affiliation with Michigan, his name would not even be in the mix.

My thought:

-Balas knows Les is going to turn them down.
-Les meets with Michigan to say thanks but no thanks as well as use leverage for a better deal at LSU.
-Hoke next candidate...

Actually, Balas (in answering a poster question) said that his gut wasn't because he thought Les would say no.

I know Hoke was passed on by Minnesota, but wasn't he passed on by someone else too (Indiana??)

If so, that is amazing to me that a coach passed on by Minnesota and Indiana becomes the head man at a program like Michigan.

You have to feel sorry for these Michigan fans.

I would be drinking heavily at this point.

He's saying on the other hand that "Les won't go to Michigan because of Les" ie that UM won't pay above a certain amount I guess or they may just be using Les to say they tried for him and end up with Hoke...who knows lol

Balas is a pot-stirrer. Just hearing it makes me nervous though.

I think the Indiana stuff was just conjecture and that he was never a candidate for the job.

My understanding was Hoke chose not to interview at Minnesota/Indiana.

This is not good at all.

AquaMan, why do you feel this way? The overall consensus about Miles in Baton Rouge and around the country is that he has underachieved at LSU since 2007, and that his early success was more a function of what he inherited than how he managed it. He has been the butt of jokes on ESPN and CBS for a few years now, and those at Michigan who knew him best are lukewarm about him, or worse. Rodriguez was a disaster, and many of the signals that he wouldn't work were there to be seen. Shouldn't U of M be out trying to find the best coach, not the best name with a Michigan diploma on his wall?

A few Rantards does not make a consensus. Anyone who thinks Miles has "underachieved" at LSU or has not done well is simply put: wrong.

Miles has had tremendous success at LSU, and anyone with a brain knows this to be true.
