You dont announce a new coach saying that he was your 3rd choice. I dont think that sets up him up for success in a leadership position.

I never said that should have been the case. In fact, in this thread I said Brandon should have just come out and said Hoke is our guy and leave it at that, with no mention of other candidates. For the pompous arse that he is, he doesn't owe anyone an explanation, especially not the local media here.
The entire handling of this was garbage, from saying we were going to have a national search, to then lying about offering to other candidates, to then taking swipes at candidates and former coaches etc. It was a mess and people are angry, rightly so. People were not happy with this hire, I was one of the ones, but when you sit back and take a look at everything that happened, Hoke is a victim of circumstance thanks in part to DB's ego, and it's unfair. I'm behind Hoke, because he is our coach now and deserves our support, and quite frankly, it's not his fault that the AD created this clusterf*** around him.

The new governor of Michigan did go to UofM though :)

Honestly, she is part of the problem herself. She is the constant between these two hires and shes particularly self serving. Until both of them are out- :/

My quandry is this: If I pull for Hoke to do a good job, for the benefit of the majority of Michigan fans who are way more classy than their jerk AD, that benefits the jerk.

Although Brandon will think it benefits him, it's really benefiting the school and the players. They did everything they could the past three years, but they weren't being coached or utilized properly (Denard is the exception). They are really excited to see how they can be utilized under a new coach. If they are excited with the hire, then thats what matters. It's not the players fault our athletic director thinks hes the second coming of God.

By the way, your coach is 100% class who is a great ambassador for not only LSU, but for UofM and I will always pull for you guys, especially with him at the helm. We know, and have known what we are missing out on for the past 3 years. You all are really lucky to have him! Go Blue! :geauxtigers:

Brandon said something to the effect that not all that glitters is gold, some of the candidates put themselves before the program, the players.
He never specifically said names, but he was definitely taking swipes at someone, or maybe all the other candidates he interviewed. I dunno. It was tacky and uncalled for. Just say Hoke was your guy, doesn't matter what choice he was.

I truly think the problem is Brandon is an ego maniac, who wanted to sit in on everything and be involved ala pseudo head coach. With Miles or Harbaugh they wouldn't have allowed that, thereby wouldn't be allowing Brandon to inflate his ego. It was probably more about putting the team and the job they would be hired to do above Brandons ego. I'm honestly surprised he didn't name himself as head coach.

No. I get that. Thats why the longer part of my post was about Brandon. Trust me, again, we are NOT by any means happy or thrilled with Dave Brandon. Has he done some cool things like The Big Chill, or our first night game, playing Alabama in 2012, yes, but his handling of this will be how hes remembered. Go on any Mich message board, you see people calling for his head, calling him a dick, blah blah. But really, there is nothing we can do. The guy will not apologize, its not the way he is.
Sorry he offended you guys by taking swipes at Miles. It was uncalled for, truly it was and we are not happy about it.

We have 3 down years and we are garbage? It's amazing for a school thats such garbage, our coaching search, albeit a very disorganized one still managed to take the spotlight during not only the Sugar Bowl, but the National Championship game.

We may not have been winning national championships left and right, but the bottom line is for the past 40 years before 2008 we were winning. In 2006 we were one game away from playing in the national championship game. Won 8 Big 10 titles and 1 national championship. Not to mention that 40 year bowl streak. It's not being arrogant, or hanging onto history it's being proud of the accomplishments.

Trust me when I tell you, we are not happy with the way this thing was handled. Fans are fed up with Brandon, and didn't appreciate the way he was a dick during the entire process. Didn't like the swipes he took at the candidates, especially since two of them are so fond of Michigan. I also was not one of RR's biggest fans, but I didn't like the swipes he took at RR during the presser. I get that you guys don't like how Brandon acts like hes above everyone, but trust me, we don't like it either. I am offended that he thinks we are so stupid to believe that Hoke was the only candidate offered/ in the running. Fans wanted Harbaugh or Miles. We weren't listened to, theres nothing we can do about it. There is also nothing we can do about his attitude except hope that he decides sooner rather than later to begin that career in politics. We're not gonna take this out on Hoke though. It's not his fault how this thing was handled. The only thing we can do is stop buying tickets, donating money, etc. Most people love Michigan too much to do that though. Our donations give the players a chance to be a part of something special. Thats what it should be about rather than telling the good ole boys club to F off.

I really don't think you'll have to worry about that anymore. Not because I think Brady Hoke is a sure thing, but because I think Les' heart is in Baton Rouge. Obviously Les is fond of his alma mater but he really loves LSU. You can tell its where he wants to be.

not the only one who feels it was a swipe at RR. Been reading that same thing on some Michigan message boards. Not surprising though. Brandon is a dick, no doubt about it...

Drew Sharp is one of the ones that said Michigan is no longer an elite program.

definitely would be an experience. Now that Les is staying, I still really want to get down to Baton Rouge for a game. Would love to experience a game in SEC country. Game vs. Bama in Dallas isn't gonna cut it for me!

I know he used to never refer to them by name. Not really sure specifically what he said. It seemed throughout the conference though, Hoke was channeling Bo. A few times when he was answering questions, if you were just listening and not paying attention to the screen, you kinda felt like you were listening to Bo.

OSU generally refers to us as "That school up North" so I'm sure he was just returning the favor haha.

details?

At one point, Hoke said his goal was to continually compete for the Big 10 title. Drew Sharp, writer for the Free Press up here asked him why the Big 10, shouldn't the goal be the NC? Hoke responded by saying No, if you win your conference, the rest should fall into place. Sharp kept pushing, insinuating that it was pretty much stupid to think that way and that Big 10 championships were consolation prizes, and Hoke finally said, I have 1 NC ring, and 5 conference championship rings, I'm proud of all of them and I don't consider any of them to be a consolation.
Typing it out doesn't sound as awesome as it was watching. Hoke doesn't exactly have an indoor voice, so. It was pretty funny.

I don't believe I said that I was completely won over. Still have to see what the results will be on the field/what he can do to save this recruiting class. Just stating after hearing him speak, not only about the University, but what his plans are, I don't think it will be DOOM as I initially thought. It's tough not to like the guy once you listen to him.
Rivals also quoting players as saying Denard will stay, which is good news.

I know you guys are busy with figuring out if Gary Crowton is staying or going, but did any of you watch Hokes press conference on mgoblue.com?

I have to say, initially I was not sold on this hire, and the jury is still out as to whether or not he will win big here, but, there is no doubt this is where this guy wants to be. He said all the right things, kept referring to OSU as "That school in Ohio" and told off one of our local reporters who has a penchant for being a total douche. He definitely has a fiery personality and I hope that translates into his coaching abilities. Changing my initial reaction to this hire, I think we'll be okay.
I'm sure if Lloyd had known Appy State was going to turn out the way it did, he would have retired at the end of 06. In some ways I believe the team knew 07 was going to be his last year and thats why the first two games were so awful. He ended the 07 season in a great way though by beating Florida coming off an NC. I can assure you though, he was not forced out.
eh. while I respect what he did as a coach, he shouldn't be able to be this influential in the search. He had a great tenure here, but if he is truly meddling i.e creating factions and keeping out coaches that have amazing resumes to get in his own guys that aren't proven then I, and a lot of other UofM fans can do without his involvement.
lol. he wasn't fired, or pushed out like some believe. He actually wanted to retire after the 06 season but Bill Martin convinced him to stay. Add to that his senior class in 07 was Henne, Hart, Long, Manningham, Arrington.
Thats why people were so angry with Bill Martin. He essentially had a year to lock a new coach up and still managed to scramble.
I don't think you're being defensive at all. I can see how you would take offense, and quite honestly I don't blame you. Trust me, UofM fans are not going to take kindly to this either. Like I said, I find it offensive that he thinks anyone would buy into the fact that Brady Hoke was the #1 choice over two coaches with the accomplishments that you listed. You think people are just going to believe that you flew into Baton Rouge to ask Les Miles for his opinion or blessing on the next UofM hire. That is incredibly stupid!!
There was no need for him to lie. All he had to say was we got our coach, we think this is the best decision for the school and provide no further comment on who did or did not get offered.
