There's always been conflicting stuff that Minnesota wasn't even interested enough in him to interview him, and then there's what you heard.

I didn't read through this whole thread.

What's the apparent knock on Hoke that seems to be the problem?

The guy has turned both programs around and has won everyone. He led Ball St. to an undefeated record and turned SD. St. around in 2 years.

What's the problem?????

AquaMan, why do you feel this way?

The Michigan program is so enamored with itself that it's willing to hire a lower tier candidate just because he has ties to the program. That is my biggest fear and the program itself is its biggest enemy.

2007 - Miles/LSU
2008 - Meyer/Florida
2009 - Saban/Alabama
2010 - Chizik/Auburn

Since 2007, Les Miles has the exact same number of SEC Championships as Urban Meyer and Nick Saban (1). Your comment might have some substance had Les Miles never won a SEC Championship at LSU, but he has, so your point is moot for now.

All of this is beside the point, though. I'm not going to defend Miles' success ... everyone knows how successful he has been, that is not even up for debate because it is a fact that he's been tremendously successful at LSU.

I happen to agree with the first part of your statement. I don't agree with the second part, because there are lots of commentators whose opinions are usually pretty sound who enjoy making Les the butt of their jokes. If I'm Michigan, I steer clear because if he turns out not to be able to fix it (whether it's his fault or not) the "You should have known better" crowd will have a field day. As an LSU alum, season ticket holder and fan (who also has a Michigan degree) I fervently hope he's at LSU for the next 20 years.

My biggest concern is that I think he'd hire Scot Loeffler as his OC. Don't get me wrong, I like Scot. But, he's a pro style guy. And that doesn't fit the current roster. Thus making a tough transition more difficult.

And what makes you think that Les will find someone that will be a spread guy?

Throwing the bank is what makes me confident. I would honestly be shocked if LSU outbids Michigan. Brandon has made it clear he's ready to pay top dollar for the next coach and we have boosters galore.

Any coach Michigan hires is going to go through a tough transition after what RichRod recruited there.

They crumbled after he left too... Hoke is compiling a nice resume, but I think there's a lot more he needs to prove before he's a slam dunk hire for a top 10 program of all time.

After LSU, I root hardest for Michigan, and I think you have to look beyond what fits the current roster (which is nothing to write home about regardless of scheme) and get the coaching staff that will bring Michigan back to Big 10+ relevance within about 3-4 years. The short term is going to be rough regardless.

Just proves, IMO, what kind of job he was doing.
