Fertita is extremely rich, but more money than all of LSU's boosters combined? That's a pretty big stretch.
Regardless, Fertita isn't going to self fund the entire UH athletics department by himself, he became a billionaire by not making stupid financial decisions. He's already made a $20 Million donation this year for a new basketball arena.

They can try and match what UT or LSU would pay him per year, but only 1 year could they afford it. UH has a insuffient football revenue, compared to just about any power 5 team. Hence why they we're passed over for BIG12 expansion. Plus, Herman would rather coach at a place where he would be in the playoffs every year he had a great season. As aposed to going 13-0 with UH, and being pushed aside for a 1 loss power 5 team, with better top 25 wins.

UH athletic department is losing money. Their university has poured millions and millions into it and is running out. They have the money, but they cant justify spending it on a coach with a 40k seat stadium and an athletic department that isnt making a profit.
LSU could pay a new coach twice what miles got from just our profits alone without even needing extra booster money and still have some left over.

Why would anyone be annoyed? Everyone wants Herman. They could pay the man 7M and 95% if LSU fans would be ecstatic.

Nobody except maybe Tom and maybe his wife know what Tom Herman is going to do. I will say this though, if he is offered the UT job and the LSU job and chooses to stay at UH, they can have him. He either doesnt have the balls to step up to the big leagues, or he is waiting for a certain job to come open that he would potentially leave LSU for anyway.

Not sure where ypu get these numbers from. LSU paid its assistants $5.5 million in 2015. Paying Herman $5 mil would likely not change the pool for assistants.

LSU is not going to miss out on Herman because of money. UT and LSU will probably offer him the exact same dollar figures for his contract. Probably around $5.5 mil/5 years with incentives that would give him a chance to get to somewhere in the neighborhood of $7 mil. Probably be some language about a bump in salary if he wins conference/national titles.
The difference is going to be in assistant coaches salaries. UT, although they most certainly can, doesn't pay assistants as much as LSU. Now, will they be willing to do so if Herman asks? Probably. It's really just going to boil down to where Herman wants to be.
He's a self proclaimed "ball coach" and has stated he doesn't care too much for all the socialite activities that come with being a coach at a big program. That type of shite at UT is ridiculous simply because of how much money the big boosters interject into the program. Now, LSU has it's fair share of it as well, but your not going to be at the beckon call of the boosters. It's really just dependent on the lifestyle he wants to live.

on our side we have Jim Bernhard, who sold the Shaw Group for 3 billion in 2013. John Havens is a partial owner of the Astros. theres also a few quiet oil and gas billionaires like Scotty Moran and the Pennington family.
this is just for starters, and doesnt include the ton of money coming from people donating what they can to TAF. thats what UH doesnt have. for them its Fertita and then nothing.
(QUESTION: i heard once that TAF actually owns that upper deck in the stadium and gets all the gate from that. is that true or was someone just fricking with me?)

and that would be worth every dime. the bama president has said that saban was the best investment the school ever made, and that enrollment and donations have grown by leaps and bounds since he got there.
as Skip once said, football is the engine that powers the athletic department, and the athletic department is what makes money. we wouldnt be throwing around millions just to measure our dicks, but as a sound investment for all of LSU.
