He's been the RB coach there for the last several years. Apparently the players all pushed for this hard, and the AD gave in

I mean we are in the middle of February. They really didn’t have any other good options.

UCLA's back was against the wall. Might as well hire an alum who has already coached there 7+ years.

I don't know anything about Foster, but I do know that the coach the players pressure administration to hire isn't usually the best option. He also doesn't seem to have even coordinator experience? Maybe UCLA literally could not do any better. That is not a good job and it's February.

Pretty lazy hire. They are going into the Big Ten so he will get three years and they move on.

Oooof

D'Anton Lynn was the hire

Why would he take that job?

UCLA was already a bad job, getting left high and dry this time of year was even worse. No chance they were landing a big name externally.

This is interesting. Foster had recently left UCLA for an NFL job. This hire tells you that nobody with a proven resume wanted that job

USC DC is a better job than UCLA head coach right now. Plus Lynn has already coached in the NFL and his dad is an NFL coach. If Lynn turns around the USC defense he will be in the running for better head coaching jobs on the college level not to mention NFL DC and head coach jobs.

Lynn would have clearly been better, but he'll be a DC in the NFL next year if USC's defense is only marginally improved.

The only time in history this has ever worked out was 2001 Miami. Every other time it has been a complete disaster. Players should have absolutely no say on who the coaching hire is

This will not end well.

I think that whole thing is more about them trying to sell the hire than them actually making the decision based on the players

No one will touch that job at this stage. It’s radioactive. Going internal like this was going to happen either way. This way they get to frame it as a “one of us” hire instead of a “no one else wanted us” hire

Is he the full-time head coach or interim for this season?

Is ucla really that bad of a job?

If so what does that say about a school that gets turned down for an open HC in favor of the ucla HC job?

UCLA lost a longtime HC for a OC job. Their problems are much bigger than than people realize.

makes me feel really old that he's 44 years old now and I still vividly remember him in college
