Tulane could be an amazing program if they gave a frick

The cheapness and anti-athletics culture within the administration always limits Tulane to sporadic, short term success. Before the PTB step in to level the program
I really think with their finances, recruiting blueprint etc. they could be elite on a consistent basis with proper vision and investment

Tulane has had success with Fritz and Sumrall and offered Baker.
I think they do care and made a legit offer to coaches this year.

They had to know with the money LSU has been spending and momentum from the Kiffin hire that Baker would be a fight and there was a chance he was leveraging them

Winning their conference and hoping to be a contender for a CFP spot, which is typically one slot for the highest ranked G6 champ in years where the ACC or another conference doesn't totally self-destruct itself.
That should be the goal of every single serious G6 program in the country.

Nah they were probably more confident on landing him than we were on landing Kiffin.

Yeah I had several LSU friends texting me congrats about getting Baker. Then when he backed out they were happy but a few said that it was a mistake for him.
While I initially didn't want him I eventually thought he could keep the program going. I wish Tulane fans didn't bash him for not coming here. Maybe he felt he wasn't ready. I know he said moving the family might have been an issue.

You can't blame them for losing any single candidate.
However, you can't ignore missing out on all of the top candidates. You have to have a sound feel for the market and be prepared for the reality that the market is higher than you expect.
My guess is that Tulane overestimated the pull it would have after the Fritz and now Sumrall situations. It didn't realize that as the job becomes more premium, so does the price tag.
I'll be disappointed if we are looking at a failed hire in 3-4 years. Tulane was in position to make another good hire about 2 weeks ago.

The Tulane reaction all around has kind of shown a level of arrogance that I think explains the situation it finds itself in.
Instead of "laying low" making a good hire, and just enjoying its moment in the playoffs, I've seen a significant number of posts calling out LSU, showing arrogance, etc.
A program like Tulane doesn't need to be creating enemies. It doesn't do itself any favors doing that, and when things do start going negative, it opens the door for a a wave of negative opinions about its program.
Honestly, I don't think too many LSU fans would have been mad at Tulane a week ago. And, I think it's almost guaranteed that LSU fans would have been rooting for Tulane vs. Ole Miss. That's weeks of positive press and social media it could have had at the beginning of a coaching stint during a very high profile time.
Now it will be a bunch of knives being thrown, and ridicule for not being able to hire a coach with a real threat of being blown out and being referred to as not being a real playoff contender.
