We actually just saw that manifest itself yesterday with the FG at the 2 inch line. He gives inordinate amount of weight to the possibility of the negative outcome, to the point where he makes suboptimal decisions.

I just can't agree with this. That decision was reasonable. He turned it over to his defense which is the strength of the team.

That decision wasn't wrong.

you still put it on your D, if you don't convert they have awful field position in bad conditions. It was a bad decision

..with a lead. Don't forget that.

If you fail to get it, and force a punt, you probably aren't scoring before the end of the game anyway. It wasn't like we were going to kick a 40 yard FG.

It was a reasonable decision. It was probably the percentage play as well. It certainly wasn't definitively wrong.

Be real.

If they don’t make the 4th down play and ND drives and kicks a FG to win it, the conversation here is the EXACT same.

I don’t buy for a second that the mob would be saying “oh, at least O tried to go for it. Give him a break. Always next year.”

Meanwhile the rosy finch boyz are living High on the hog and laughing to the bank. Can’t wait to see o’s new shrimp boat fleet after he collects his buyout.

The defense saved the team's arse all day. Was it too much to ask the offense to make 1 damn play? That has been LSU's issue for a while. If the defense isn't perfect, then there is no chance to win. The offensive players are on scholarship too, and they should have to experience pressure every once in a while also. I just hope that the day will come when the offense can take a game over and force a victory, rather than always playing defensive. Even Bama has given up points to teams in the past, and they had to outscore them. Just wish LSU could every now and then.

Let's see, about 65% of the time on 4th and 1 you're going to convert. I would guess its higher on 4th and inches.

On the year combined our FG kickers are about a 56% proposition to hit a FG.

Expected value right there suggests going for it, not to mention probability of winning with a TD late is much higher than leading by 3. Even if you miss you have ND in more of a defensive posture starting in the shadow of their own end zone, as opposed to the 20 where they can open things up.

You're going to turn it over to the defense either way. I want to give them a bigger lead if the likelihood of getting 7 is the same or better as getting 3.

17 points is just not enough now days. LSU's middle of the pack record is directly affiliated with the below middle of the pack "Scoring Offense" ranking. Major Changes are needed to be relevant, and it really isn't debatable.
