hey yeah what's another couple million in the buy out jar, I mean its not like our AD is in the papers crying about how devastating the tax changes will be for the athletic department. Let's go ahead and burn some more cash because our meat head coach can't set his ego aside

We really need Adam Henry and TMac back
But heeeey as long as we got Mickey and McMahon..

Well, let's at least see what we end up being on the hook for before we get too up in arms about the buyout.

You can make the same case (financial) for firing Orgeron. Change is expensive. But, it's the cost of doing business. And, it's foolish to think this entire situation is simply a result of our "meat head coach that couldn't set his ego aside."
More importantly, you have to consider the best path moving forward. What's the alternative that would lead to success? This isn't rhetorical. What is the right course of action at this point in your opinion?
Fire Orgeron (even more expensive) and blow it all up after all of the head coaching vacancies have already been filled? Personally, I think it's pretty much the absolute worst time of the year for that.
Keep Canada? Could you imagine what that would look like moving forward? That would be a disaster internally, and I personally think the upside with Canada is pretty limited as well. It sounds like you think this could work. I think it's a crazy notion.
Make a cheap hire (Ensminger, etc.) Disaster. This would cost the least amount of money, but you'd almost certainly be replacing the entire staff after next year and the program will be that much weaker.
The only winning move is to invest in an OC. That was the original plan when they hired Orgeron. We are working under a model that's different than most. You've got to commit to it.

oh no it very much is important. The handling of this was troubling, whether you liked Canada or not.
Ok. But, it's less important than the hire LSU presumably is about to make. There is a real opportunity here, again.

Sure but let’s say the hire is Briles. If O didn’t give much of a leash to Canada should we believe he will to a younger coach with much less of a track record ?
FWIW I’d like the hire on paper

Remember when we hired Cam cameron and Miles wouldn't interfere because they were best buds?

That's not a very nice thing to say about someone. It's like me saying that I wish lildicboy would fail at breathing.
Be kind, fella! Support your team and whatever you do, DON'T PANIC.

A lot of us read that situation wrong. In reality, because they were best buds Miles felt that he could dictate to Cam without any pushback. He was right.

No I don’t believe those two things are similar at all. Hoping a coach fails and hoping a kid dies seem pretty different to me...who knows though

Not to mention it completely goes against the binder.
I don't think O is worried about the binder anymore. Ensminger would be a "good ole boy" hire and be someone that O cold easily manipulate and use as a fall guy.

I dont think anyone is in panic mode. We knew the moment O was hired that we werent going anywhere. In a way, I think we are all just apathetic to the situation until Alleva and/or O is gone

Anybody see the irony here? F. King cock-blocked Alleva from firing Miles because it would look bad to be spending that kind of money during a financial crisis (real or imagined). But instead we end up spending more in the long run.

Orgeron screwed up for the Troy game. But, based on what I saw, I think Canada had the offense after that. I think it's overblown that Orgeron simply can't stay out of it. Most fans here seem unable to separate the reality that Orgeron screwed up with a rational discussion of that that would mean moving forward. To them, it's impossible to consider that, if he made a good hire, he'd let him do his job.
I just don't believe that. Orgeron wants to be successful. My biggest criticism of him is that he's been too concerned about failing. Losing to MSU wasn't the end of the world. The team was facing serious personnel issues at the time. But, instead of weathering the storm of criticism, he seemed to react to something he didn't like (Canada) and made the situation worse.
Having said that, if Canada was performing better, I don't think that would have happened.
He needs to do more than just get out of the way. He needs to find and hire someone that can take this offense to the next level...then he needs to get out of the way. I would also suggest that he needs to be willing to weather the storm early. If we were to struggle, he needs to step up and offer confidence in the coordinator and remind all of the fans that this is the right direction and that we will be better off at the end of this road. His fate is tied to this hire. That needs to be clear. So, he needs to go all in in supported it.

Don't forget about the Syracuse game too. It was two games in a row where our offensive line looked confused and totally out of sorts. The safety that Syracuse got was due to guys not all being on the same page and they left a Syracuse linebacker completely unblocked.
At that point, I think there were definitely legitimate causes for concern with the blocking and protections.

There are always growing pains with a new offense, especially one with as much pre-snap motion as Canada's. Orgeron's knee-jerk reaction was to get rid of the motion to eliminate the penalties. What he should have done is allow the team to just get better at it with more reps. Which is what ultimately happened.

I don’t believe you ever truly saw his offense, some version of it maybe but it didn’t resemble much of what he’s done in the past.
Given the personnel issues, I think as you later went on to say, O should have demonstrated more patience and allowed things to at least somewhat gel. He pulled the plug and tried to go back to the old offense to save his arse.

I have to say, looking at what Pitt did most of last year compared to what we trot out this year...there is very little resemblance

I just don't agree. I think a lot of people adopt that conclusion because the solution is just to leave him alone and we'll finally see it.

Right, and it cost him. And, I think everyone agrees it was a mistake. He didn't have confidence in Canada. And, he reacted. That wasn't done in a vacuum. It wasn't ONLY based on a lack of patience. He obviously didn't believe in Canada's ability to get it rolling.
Whoever is hired, needs to be a good one. Orgeron really needs to believe it will work and needs to have success. If not, this is all a moot point.
