They'll definitely have transfers too.

Louisville would have annihilated Texas the last 5 years.

Texas fans are so egocentric about their school. I guess that's what other schools make fun of that slogan, "we're Texas" .

That's why they are becoming a dumpster fire. Honestly I think the Texas support of strong is so fake and forced. I'm pretty sure they wanted to fire him last year.

Wouldn't shock me at all if strong gets fired and builds up another school that eventually kicks their arse.

Man I hope they fire strong and screw up another hire.

Am I the only one that thinks that Herman isn't the end all be all of college coaches? I mean, don't get me wrong. I'd love to have him, but he's not the only candidate that can do damage here.

Eta: You give it your best shot to bring him here, if he chooses another team, oh well. There's other coaches that can get the job done. They just need to be given the opportunity and we need to try to be open-minded.

Exactly... Charlie Strong is gone, assuming they continue to suck this year.

I can see LSU going with Orgeron if Texas lands Herman

Depends on how this season goes

Their defense has been terrible as in they were terrible last year too. But they're playing a bunch of Fresh and Soph this year on that side of the ball. Their offense has shown major improvement. I've watched all their games this year. They've been very impressive but can't keep up with the amount of points the defense is giving up.

Strong has only gotten to recruit 2 full recruiting classes, and both have been top 10. He can't even field most of those players yet, and they're expecting him to dominate. It's not like he didn't have talent, but he's clearly been ham stringed by what he has.

I agree but you are asking too much.

I still think Strong is a good coach, and I still hope he can turn things around.

I guess that's the real test. With his job on the line, can he get that porous defense improved just enough to win some games and keep his gig? In another year or two, that youth will be experienced and his excellent recruiting will start to kick in.

Perrin is the interim AD after Patterson was fired and may not be excited to make the single biggest decision in an athletic department when he is not the one who is going to have to live with it. It may be one of the reason's Charlie has lasted this long.

Texas is looking at three straight losing seasons, something that hasn't happened since the 1930's. And Strong WASN'T handed a rebuilding job - Mack consistently won there and recruited well. If he can't at least pull a winning season there this year, I can't see how they can't fire him.

You think recruits would leave knowing Herman is coming? I doubt it

Strong has had plenty of time to "begin" to turn the program around, and he hasn't.

5 Losses
They will fire Strong. The talk will escalate this weekend if they lose the Red River Shootout.

The problem is, I don't think they do this till the season is over. They won't do it with 4 games left because they need to justify the firing with 5 or more losses and you won't know that till years end.

That is the only way LSU can get Herman, throw money at him and do a sale job and point out all the crap at UT. Wrap him up early. If Herman waits till the end of the year to see if USC & UT fire their coaches, then LSU better have a plan B in place and maybe even plan C.

But Herman would be smart to wait till season end, knowing he is the hot coach to potentially get a bidding war at some rich and top notch programs with fertile recruiting grounds. There is no way LSU wraps him up early.

So with that said, we will be waiting for another 2.5 + months for our coaching Christmas present. The only way we find out earlier is if LSU sees the writing on the wall and knows Herman isn't coming here and goes and gets an OC from another school. At that point they could announce something earlier.

Any honest assessment of Strong is that he has done a terrible job. He has no one to blame but himself.
