A move that needed to be made for them. They need to fire Matt Wells, but it looks like he got one more season.

Should be able to land another OC gig but if he doesn't he makes sense for ULM

holy shite i just saw USU in 2012 had Gary Anderson at HC, Wells at OC, and Aranda at DC

They had Heupel and Todd Orlando on staff like a year or two after that. Utah State has had some pretty big coaches go through there considering the program

that 2012 usu-auburn game was when i first fell for Dave
ughhhhhh that "packer" look that led to the Queen INT against bama :splooge:

Does Graham Harrell go home to be OC/QB Coach or keep the sane title at USC. USC is obviously a better program but some people prefer their home town.

I don't get this. I've acknowledged in a couple of Briles threads that Wells has been underwhelming, but he's only coached 22 games.
Unless there's something more going on behind the scenes, I don't know why they need to pull the trigger on him already. We're not talking about a program that's historically easy to win at.

I agree with your entire premise, the only reasoning behind it is, the hire from the start was a bad hire, fans and people within the program weren’t gung ho about this from a couple years ago. A small sample size sure, but an 8-14 record, 5-13 conference record, and 0 bowl appearances hurt, you also have a Texas Tech team that beat Kansas by 3 recently. I do believe Texas Tech could get a better and bigger name than Wells, but in a COVID year with a 9 million dollar buyout still, trying to get a new OC and 1 more season, is somewhat understandable. Program is just very stale it seems.

I miss Yost’s mile-wide offensive line splits.
(I do not.)

Art may go, but Kendall is staying in the SEC. That’s almost from the horse’s mouth.

I actually thought he'd be a good fit for them initially, and my cousin who graduated from Tech felt the same. Though you're correct, the reaction to his hiring was lukewarm overall, and his record at USU wasn't amazing.
Lubbock is just a weird place in general. People either love it or hate it. Tuberville appeared to be a good get for them, but he couldn't wait to get out of there. Wells might be a much worse fit than I anticipated.

I believe Tech could pull a bigger and better name too, but I'll stick up for Wells in this regard...I think Kliff deserves a lot of blame for the staleness in the program.
He had a lousy conference record, and he didn't leave behind a lot of talent. I think this was a bigger project than Tech fans are willing to admit, no matter who they hired.
