So... aside from the commitee

quote:

Patterson also has hired Jed Hughes of Korn/Ferry International, an executive recruiting firm, to help with the search.

Also, Steve Hicks, lets take a trip down memory lane to who he is exactly...

Remember the story about Saban saying Texas is the only job he would consider? Well who did Sexton have the 45 minute phone call with? Tom Hicks, former regent. And After this call he met with mack and informed him, asking him to retire, yet mack said he wanted to stay. Afterwards, Mr. Tom Hicks emailed his brother to advice him of Saban's interest. Who is his brother? None other than current vice chair of the board of regents, Steve Hicks..

Just my opinion... they have their guy... this is just a show since they can't publicly have him til after bowl games... and it gives enough time after the Mack fallout. I'm not wearing a tin hat... just reading tea leaves..

Because every school wants to wait to announce their hire so their recruiting class can fall apart. Makes sense

if their guy is coaching in a bowl game and has a high profile job, and wants to wait to announce, you damn right they'll wait 2 weeks.

When was the last time a school waited for a non NFL guy? Even out of NFL hires the only one I can remember waiting was Charlie Weis at ND. Even if the AD is that dumb no coach is dumb enough to put himself in that type of hole recruiting wise

its not all about recruiting. and just cause he's not an nfl guy doesn't make a difference if he's good.

why would you want to wait? If you are leaving, you are leaving. Pull the fricking bandaid. Coaches do it every year. There have been several cases of coaches leaving before BCS bowls.

Exactly. I can't ever remember an AD waiting to take a coach just because it felt right. They want to get them in before this past weekend when most of the big OVs occur

If it's the right guy, they're likely not worried about the recruiting class falling apart.

That's a pretty diverse group of business and political people. But no former coaches or players.

What could go wrong?

Not good enough. I think it requires at minimum a 9 man committee. 220.....221..... whatever it takes.

do y'all really misunderstand the dead period that much? Coaches can call once per week. Players can call coaches as often as they like. They can communicate via email and FB and the like. They cannot text.

This is the time period to start a job. The extra time afforded by the dead period allows you to meet and greet as well as hire staff. You figure out who is doing what, who is who in your own AD, and find a place to live, move the family, etc. Acting like because it's a dead period it's irrelevant suggests you are working with widgets here.

There are reasons that now is the time most coaches are hired, not post-dead period. A coach that starts after it's over is so far behind the 8-ball. Spend the time, hire the right guy. I agree 100%. But you don't have an agreement and then wait on it.

He was insinuating they already have the guy. This last weekend was most definitely not dead. It's one of the most important weekends in recruiting.

It makes zero sense on both sides to wait. And this is evident because it almost never occurs
