I thought this was settled, but Rick Neuheisel just said on ESPNU Radio that he is hearing new “rumblings” coming from Austin about Herman.

This was 30 minutes ago.

my first question is, does Brian Kelly know?

who knows, he might be tired of not having enough athletes to get him over the top

the state of Texas has more talent, in theory, he should be able to recruit better than at ND

Herman was trying to get out and take USC job. Who says he isnt trying to escape to another job. There will be some that are open. He may take his payday from UT and head out. For Kelly, ND is very hard to manage. Alot of restrictions with school. The fact that he is even in running for playoffs is testament to his coaching and program. Maybe he wants a big pay day and less restrictions regarding recruiting and players. IF he is making 2 million and texas offers 10. If he stays 4 years at texas he will have made 20 times what he wouldve made at ND in same time. Thats retirement money. Just sayin

Has a coach ever left Notre Dame for another college job? Don't they retire or get fired?

Possibly the statement from the AD, which was very weakly worded, was an attempt at damage control ahead of the early signing period.

quote:

"There has been a lot of speculation about the future of our football coach," Del Conte said in a statement. "My policy is to wait until the end of the season before evaluating and commenting on our program and coaches.

"With the close of the regular season, I want to reiterate that Tom Herman is our coach," Del Conte added.

I know he later clarified and said this statement meant Herman would be back in 2021, but there are no direct quotes about that clarification that I can find, so it could have been ambiguously worded as well.

Maybe your source meant to say Chip Kelly and said Brian Kelly by mistake?

Brian Kelly’s low salary is a myth. Only part of the contract is released to the public. There is no way in hell that Muffett McGraw is making more than he is

I doubt he makes THAT little at Notre Dame. However, "interest" in the Texas job could be floated to leverage a raise on the heels of his second playoff appearance (3rd if you want to count their BCS NG appearance).

quote:

Another could be that IMO the ceiling at Notre Dame is making the playoff. They’ll likely never be able to win a championship.

So a guy who has, in 10 seasons, taken 3 teams to either the BCS NC game or playoff appearances wants to leave to go to a school whose crowning achievement over the past decade is a 7 point Sugar Bowl win over a completely disinterested Georgia team?

I doubt he wants to leave a very wealthy private school who doesn't have to share revenue with anyone else to become the HC at the occasionally second best team in the big 12 with a boatload of obnoxious boosters

That's the salary they have to list but that's not actually what he makes. Muffet McGraw was listed with more than that and Kelly isn't making less than the women's basketball coach.

Eight days ago your source said “Ensninger and Linehan are both returning.”

Didn't the AD of UT come out and say they are keeping Herman for 2021?
