Wait, are you saying Les Miles isn't a good coach?

I think the fan base needs a coaching change more than anything. As successful as Les is, the fans never allowed him to escape Saban's shadow. For that reason the fan base has never been so divided. The fans desperately need a coach that everyone can rally behind. One that won't be trying to fill Saban's shoes.

Let him win another NC, get the all time wins record and retire as an LSU legend

After that I'm good with whatever

Always the quoted reason...but for most, it is not the reason. Failed quarterback recruiting/development and clock management madness are the real reasons.

It is pretty clear people just don't like the guy. Even a couple are willing to take bad years just for chang . That is ridiculous. I'm sorry but no I don't want to sink to UF the past 2 years or even worse get in such a big hole like Tenn it could take a decade to crawl back out of.

frick That

Have you watch another coach in charge for 130+ games? They all have clock issues. You just happen to notice them more because you have a large sample of closely watched games.

Even belichik fricks up.

The real reason is he talks funny and lost that game against Tennessee in 2005 on a Monday night. Most have never given him a true chance. They just only have a hand full of games they had a reason to voice their hate. Some have been true to their hate from day 1 like tiger n atl. At least he owns that shite and didnt go into hiding after 103 wins.

People were happy because he won and they tolerated it. But the more he won, the higher the expectations. Then he wins the bcs title and fans were thumping their chest about it. Fast toward a few years and those same fans use that title to somehow now descredit him just because we faultered in 2011.

Dgnx6 nailed it. Most of Miles' critics have never been involved in football in their lives.
Tigers' team in '13 had a bad defense due to underclassmen leaving early.

With the exception of Saban, what coach has done more than Miles has in his tenure at LSU?

If Miles leaves chances are that most of the more sought after Head Coaches are already in bed with someone else. That could mean we would look to hire from within. Who from our staff has head coaching experience, who would most likely be moved up? Correct, Cam.
If we do lose Les we probably lose a top in state recruit or two every year due to Miles relationships in state.
What staff does he take with him, Cheif, Frank...etc?
And the big question is who can we bring in that can run the program better than Miles? Everyone on here wants someone with a better offensive scheme or better clock management skills but the truth is in the grand scheme of things these are just two of the more visible criteria to the fan base and may not be two of the more important criteria in running a successful program.

Can someone please get the OP a direct line to Tennessee, Miami, Nebraska, and other once proud programs that "just needed a change".

That worked out real well didn't it? Tennessee has been irrelevant for going on 10 years now after just needing a change from Fulmer. You guys have no idea what you are asking for.

You're right about recruiting to an extent , but a lot of teams aren't capable of sitting back in a top 5 NFL producing talent state, with no other university to take them, and get five stars all day. And even though Miles can do that and has, it hasn't always worked.

You have got to coach a scheme to win. Miles scheme is forty years old.

Wish him all the best if he goes. Not going to lie and say I want him to stay but if he does hopefully he can get another title.

Do NOT give him a raise or extension though.

he frustrates me to no end at times, but I fully respect his recruiting and ability to win (relatively speaking) over an extended period of time like no other coach at LSU.
I posted something like this but from a different angle and wish I'd had your input on what I was trying to express. Because I think you hit a home run with your post here. Thanks for expressing what my own words failed to completely express. I like Coach Miles. I would love to see him succeed at LSU (which means beating Nick Saban and his Alabama teams a few more times before retirement). I would love to see "let 'er rip Les" make a few more return appearances and LSU to again tear up the West and sit high in the national rankings. But what you said about his aging, and wondering if this hoped for upsurge was possible at LSU rang true enough to at least raise that question. I liked the way you put it here...

I feel like both LSU and Miles could use a re-birth. Sometimes you have to tear something down for the greater good.
A honorable departure for Michigan would fulfill a dream Les Miles may have nurtured in his heart for years. It would not be the same as him being fired or being run out of town by torch-waving mobs of crazed former fans. It would be a win/win for Les and for LSU. And I'd be real ok with that.

Miles is the new Lloyd Carr

You do realize that Carr almost got a rematch with tOSU for the National Title in 2006, the year before he was fired, don't you? Yes, 2007 was bad, but it wasn't like it was the end of a long steady decline.

I do think there is merit in the OP. Sometimes, a leader just isn't heard anymore after he's been at the same place for too long. Look at Andy Reid at Philadelphia and Kansas City. Not saying Miles is there yet, but he could be.

I do agree with the comment that some have never given him a real chance, and with the loss on 1/9, that chance will never come.

Doc,

It is not in our hands and I like Miles and change is risky and scary, but Satan is owning us right now. I hate it but it is simply the truth. We may be better we may be screwed. I was at LSU during the dark days, so I know how bad it can get. Again, it is beyond our control. All we can do is hope.

not even fecking close to the truth.

his stubbornness and arrogance, specially on 1-9-12, along with his inability to develop QBs just has overshadowed his "past" accomplishments. All self inflicted.
His recruiting will be what may mark his absence.

The problem with this mentality is that Saban is owning pretty much everyone. There's no coach out there that just takes it to Saban. There are very few coaches who are even consistently competitive against Saban. Les Miles is one of those guys who has fielded teams that have played Saban down to the wire damn near every game. Coaching in the SEC West is the toughest gig in CFB, and there are a lot of "great" coaches who come in and shite the bed. Miles has kept us competitive, and that's something I'm not willing to let go of for the sake of change.

If he goes to UM to live out his dream, I'll having nothing but respect for the man and wish him good luck. Otherwise, it's incredibly dangerous to play with this situation. It doesn't matter who would have come in after Saban. He would have never been Saban to most of the fanbase.

If this is truly your attitude, then I don't see any reason why you should really want Miles to leave. However, I seriously doubt that you will be cool with a couple or three seasons of crappy teams brought about by a change of coaches.

No without extreme improvement under center. Remind me again how Jordan Jefferson improved while under Miles' tutelage?
