People wanted CLM gone after the '05 UThug loss.

More people wanted CLM gone after the audacity of the '08 8-5.

Still more people wanted CLM gone now after the absurdity of 8-4.

Think about the guy tasked with finding the CLM replacement if he leaves, while 2 other major CFB jobs are being filled.

Sorry, I think I'll stay with the devil I know instead of the devil I don't know...

LSU fans better be careful what they wish for. This 2014 team was one of the youngest in the country and they got better as the season progressed. I'm not sure another coach could come in and achieve the success that Les has produced at LSU. He's by far the best coach, production wise, that your program has had.

I can't fault you for your sentiments, because they're pretty well founded, but our fanbase is overlooking what Miles is on the cusp of here. This staff has taken some time for the pieces to come together, but currently it is one of the best in CFB. Cam has shown in limited time what he can do if given the right personel, and the 14' recruiting class may go down as the best ever at LSU. As they mature, the sky is the limit. Chavis is a proven winner, but if two or more juniors decide to skip the draft he may have the best defense of his tenure. What can understandably be viewed as complacency, I see as the trough of huge wave of success that's about to break.

I'll pay for the pitchforks if LSU doesn't win the West over the next two years, because then it could accurately be said that Miles squandered this talent. However, I truly believe by then that we'll be looking back at how silly it was we almost gambled that success to land a McElwain.

[quote]I get frustrated with Les a number of times each season. Yes, he does need to evaluate his decisions over the past 5 years. Particularly those in the BCS game versus Bama and Arkansas this year. However, he is a class person and has represented LSU well. Regardless of the LSU fan base believing every coach will apply for the head coaching position. This will not be the case. Texas last year and Florida this year as real good examples. Give Les the respect that he's due. Make him feel appreciated and pray he improves his weaknesses. He does have strengths to build on.___________________________________________

Agree with OP. Think Miles to Michigan would be a good move for both parties, personally.

sometimes, a clean start is good for both, it infuses energy
it all depends on who follows him .
i.e what kind of hire we make.

IMHO
if we go with anyone over 50-55 yrs, we are dead..
need a proven coach, though not necessarily a name every knows.

question? Do anyone think he would have seriously taken the Arkansas job or was it token interview b/c he's friend with the AD, just offering assistance (not sure if I believe this) or was he using the job as leverage?

Not an exact comparison because of things like Appy St debacle, but to be honest, the Michigan fanbase felt the same way at the end of the Carr era. Mediocre seasons were getting tiresome. In hindsight, most fans would probably have preferred continuing with the mediocrity and decent bowls, but I'm kind of glad we tried the Rich Rod experiment.

Michigan has never been the same since the 2006 OSU game and I feel a little bit the same way about LSU and 1/09/12.

Call me crazy, but I think it'll be good if this whole Miles v. Saban thing stops for good with the hiring of a new coach. We've lost the last 4, and I think a younger commodity (must be a good candidate) can help out the program for the future while Miles happily retires in Ann Arbor.

May be the opposite. Maybe 1/9 drained something out of Miles' inner self. The man may need a fresh start.

The best part of it is no one gives a crap that you and the other dozen or so nuclear physicists in this thread feel it's time for a change.

we had 4 NFLers at skill positions on offense the last two years. one of which was a pro style Qb which fits miles offense to a tee. we won nothing. no championships. yet we are grasping for straws hoping we can do something with the guys we have now because they are "young"?

Have any of you actually followed closely a major coaching change/search? About half of it is nothing more than timing and plain old luck.

It's one thing to say we can do better (which is partial lunacy anyway) but it's another thing to actually pull off getting better. If the top 3 coaches on a list just aren't at the place in their career (for various reasons) to make the move- or if in the timing someone else pulls the trigger on them first- then it could get real dicey.
Think nearly anyone could win here with our recruiting ability? Say hello to Dinardo. Nice recruiter, absolute joke at coaching his last 2 years.

LSU lost practically the entire defense to early departures the season before. So please think before you post
