Are you listening? I never said we need him as coach or our program will fall apart. I did say that you can't just make shite up to discredit the guy. I mean if you believe some on this site, the only game we play all year against an opponent that's more that HS qualified is Bama. Lately, all I have seen is"O sucks because he couldn't score on Bama" and "the 3000 pts he scored on the other teams, well anyone could've done that..." I like all of the discussions, but man, don't sound like morons.

He can't really change the offense mid season enough to drastically change it. His job was to reunite the locker room which was decidedly fractured under miles.
He did that.
His job was to energize the team and get them to play hard for 60 min in every game.
He has done that.
His job is to let the coordinators do their job.
He has done that.
His job was and is to save the recruiting class as much as possible. So far it looks like he will do it.
That all said...Hire Herman or Jimbo.

SCar had the 97th ranked defense in YPG in 2015, Mizzou is currently 110
FL had the 8th ranked defense, USM is currently 18.

People forget that LSU blew a few teams out last year. Having said that, the idea that we are litigating every single performance this year has gotten beyond silly.
We should be hiring the next head coach on the basis of more than a partial year of performance. Ken Venturi did not get a serious look from the Saints years ago for being a popular players coach after a real coach was fired.

You know what is a fact though? We've set 4 new offensive records since Orgeron took over. Is it a coincidence that it happened under Orgeron? Would those things have happened regardless?
Just find that pretty surprising and interesting.

There are two main differences between last November and this one.
First is motivation. I won't argue that the team played a more inspired game on Saturday than they did post-Bama in 2015.
Second is defense. The defense this year is much better than last years'. There were times in the Arky game where the offense went cold, but the defense never really let up. The 2015 defense probably lets Arkansas back in that game.

I don't believe Orgeron revolutionized this offense, nor do I think it is the same offense that we saw under Miles, in the following sense. It is not the same playcalling for one, in the sense that you cannot predict, based on the down, what LSU is going to do. The athletes at our skill positions are better utilized within the scheme as well.
The only credit Orgeron deserves is picking an OC and letting him work. Other than that, he deserves none. You could say the same for criticism of Orgeron. He picked the OC, so any shortcomings of that coach fall on him as well.
As far as the defenses they have played, you get what you are dealt. Are they fantastic defenses? No, definitely not. But LSU didn't look inept like they did against Jacksonville State, or the 2nd half vs Miss State.
Does O deserve the job because of those games? No. If he gets the job, it's because of the way he has managed the team and coaches. Something Miles proved to be inept at over and over again. LSU didn't even look competitive against Arkansas in the last 2 years, and while this Arkansas team is not those, LSU still performed better than what you might have expected based on the last 2 meetings. The rest of the season will tell the tale of Ed Orgeron.

Given that LSU was going to fire Les anyway (which I think had to be done) the problem was LSU won the A&M game in November. Then we would have been saved people lobbying for a guy with a resume that doesn't suggest he deserves a lot of consideration.
Florida, Arkansas, and A&M appear to be going down like working girls in the holiday season. You can't base a head coaching hire on LSU beating teams they should be able to beat on talent alone.
Beating those teams wouldn't have convinced people who wanted Les fired that he had the team on the right track. Why would we turn around and hire a coach with questionable credentials on that same several games? It makes no sense to me.

Well, I have a crackpot theory that I can get to. But first of all, Wisky and Auburn were two of the top defenses we'll face all year.
Miss. St. was classic Miles sitting on an early lead. Jacksonville St. was a slow start.
As for my crackpot theory, perhaps Miles got pissed off at the way the end of last season played out and was intentionally sandbagging to get fired.

A very good sign is that coach O mentioned after the Alabama game that if he were become head coach that he could not keep running the pro style offense in order to beat Alabama. Said he would have to change the offence entirely if he stayed. He realizes already that the offence needs to evolve.

Its not that Coach O is revolutionizing the offense, he's just not holding it back like Miles did. It speaks more for how bad Miles was than how good O is.
