This is absolutely hilarious reading all the expert opinions on the art of negotiating a deal. Listening to experts on the rant that on a average earn about 12 grand a year . Bunch of fricking retards.

Why not, though? Worst case scenario he ends up at Texas.

Terry, don't interrupt the circle jerk here.

Then certainly you will argue that 3.5 mil is too high for Orgeron, right?

Yes i do. I think 2.8 - 3.1 with incentives would have been about right. I don't think the caching pool was very good.

ETA: The only coach I wouldn't have a problem paying is Saban. He has deserved every penny he is paid.

If Herman was who we wanted you make him say no. You don't just back down because he "wants to go to Texas" whether that's even true.

This. Seems like Alleva had no plan on selling Herman on his "damn strong program." Joe told Armstrong "I represent myself in this situation", took his offer like the bitch he is & told them "have a great day." Total bitch move on Joe's part. This guy has long history of being a spineless coward yet there are posters coming to his defense. It's ridiculous.

Because he said he wanted to talk to Texas?

You have no idea what Joe's sales pitch was nor how the negotiation went. We only know how it ended - Herman called Joe to tell him he would begin negotiating with UT (his alleged dream job with the deepest pockets).

That seems to be the most reasonable answer. But others would say it was because Joe was a bitch.

He wanted to hear all his offers. Pretty reasonable for him to want to do that. Only an idiot would refuse to entertain a second offer.

I guess aleva was looking to hire an idiot.

I hope the best for Orgeron, I hope like hell this works out. But if you had told me 4 months ago that we were going to fire Miles and replace him with Ed Orgeron I would have called you a moron.

We screwed Herman by not driving up the price. Alleva knew what was about to happen and screwed him by not giving him and his agent the bidding war. Texas gave him an offer and said "take it or we're moving on" and with no competition lined up, he took it.

Herman had some leverage, but he was playing with big boys and he was told what he would take.

I guess that "bidding war" never really materialized, huh Joe?

Why waste time bidding. He was going to Texas anyway.

Well, if he got "upset" that Herman didn't want to sign his "offer" despite expressing interest prior to talking to Texas and then withdrew it, I don't think that's the wisest thing to do.

Texas is his dream job. If he wanted to coach at LSU he would have, regardless of what Texas did with Strong. Pretty apparent he's where he wants to be.

Because that's part of his job and if Orgeron was next in line he could have waited several more days and possibly even negotiated with other qualified coaches?

Why is this such a difficult concept for so many people? Joe Alleva's loser, whiny attitude has rubbed off on too many of our fans.

I mean, OK. This type of talk is bandied about a lot. It's somewhat childish in the upper echelon of coaching jobs. It may be true, it may not be. For every "I have to answer when momma calls", there are countless others where $ plus other incentives talk more.

Along the same lines, this is stupid. What does this mean? The vast majority of coaching hires want to work where they have accepted a position because the pros of that position outweigh the cons.
