Excellent point. We all know that Michigan was/is Miles's dream job.

Along the same lines, this is stupid. What does this mean?

It means exactly what it says. A waste of time to go back and forth when the minute UT fired Strong, it was over for Herman to LSU. Move on.

Yes, they could/should have vetted and interviewed more
candidates. Herman was never going to happen once UT entered the picture. If he didn't sign here for 5-6 million, bidding higher was senseless.

Yep, Miles turned down Michigan because Skip sold him on LSU being the place he needed to be. Skip pushed the advantages of staying at LSU. Alleva bent over & folded because he lacks the skills of being a salesman. Skip was a salesman who had balls.

quote:

Les Miles turned down the Michigan job in 2011, when Michigan offered him more money. He would never say it, but Skip says he was there and Miles turned down the Michigan job. Dave Brandon flew down on his Domino’s Plane saying he needed an answer or he’d hire Brady Hoke. Miles said no, Hoke got the job.

Why are you whining?

If you think I'm whining for expecting the athletic director to actually do his job then so be it. It isn't exactly an unreasonable request.

LSU needed someone with a strong gift of gab who would sell the strong points of being the head coach of the Fighting Tigers. A guy who possesses the ability the make the baddest bitch at the bar slide her panties off for him. Instead we got reject/jack off Joe who either takes home fat bitches or who goes home & beats his meat thinking about that bad bitch at the bar.

He wanted to hear all his offers. Pretty reasonable for him to want to do that. Only an idiot would refuse to entertain a second offer.

My understanding was that he had, supposedly, agreed to become LSU's coach when he made that request to hear out Texas's offer. Charlie Strong's job status wasn't any different on 11/25 than it was the day Les Miles was fired. Herman could have heard what they had to say at any point in time the previous month or two. To bring in another party, once an agreement was reached, can only be interpreted one way.

To make it hypothetical, you propose to your SO and she says yes. A couple days/weeks later she tells you that some guy that she had always had a crush on asked her out. Should she go on that date? should she weigh all her options before she contractually ties herself to you, despite the fact that she already agreed?

Fine, don't get into a bidding war for our top two guys, but does it then follow that we should sign a guy that no school in college football would bid on.

The stupidly of Alleva's process is eye opening and frightening if you are an LSU fan. But then, he did go to the Sunbelt for a mediocre coach to right the LSU basketball ship.

God help us!

There is no agreement until it is signed. I swear, I'm amazed at a large portion of our fan base. Would you be upset if I told you there is no tooth fairy? The overly emotional, simplistic points of view that a lot of you have is scary.

No need for insults man.

the assumptions that are drawn over what should have happened are ridiculous. I wanted Herman to come here too. I am not enthused/excited about Ed O. I'll get over it.

People keep saying LSU should have made Herman say no, well he did say no. Pretty clearly.

You're right. You handled them admirably.

Maybe. My fear is that we didn't actually make him say no.

You make him say no by offering him more money after he talks to Texas. If he says now after you make a counter or two for him, so be it.

When he mentions that he is going to see what Texas says and our AD acts like a 12 year old girl right away, yea thats a different 'saying no'.

The issue was never the salary per year. The issue was the length of contract and the total buyout. LSU didn't want to get into a bidding war with a long term contract that could put them in a situation where they would owe $10M+ to fire a coach.

Herman was damned lucky he got 5 million from Texas. He tried to bluff LSU and Alleva called his bluff.

Hell yes! Joe really showed him!

List of winners in this situation:
1. Ed Orgeron
2. Texas
3. Tom Herman

List of losers in this situation:
1. LSU
2. Joe Alleva

e screwed Herman by not driving up the price. Alleva knew what was about to happen and screwed him by not giving him and his agent the bidding war. Texas gave him an offer and said "take it or we're moving on" and with no competition lined up, he took it.

yes, right, we screwed Herman. He "only" signed for $5 million per year, which would put him no. 7 nationally in 2016. Good lord, man, Herman's only been a head coach for 2 years and signs with an elite football program at a massive salary. But yea, we sure screwed him.

Solely an assumption, but what if the 5M he signed with at Texas is the result of a counter or two for him, and we lost the bidding war.

Not asking to be an arse, would that make the news of missing out on Herman better or worse?
