Here's the thing: I don't think LSU made a mistake by NOT hiring Napier nor do I think UF is hitting a home run by doing so.
He's a good coach. Guessing LSU will hire a similarly good coach. LSU wanted to take some big swings.
UF wanted to target a coveted coach and go get'em.

Easy to say that right now when LSU is still open

Looking at what’s out there, LSU could make some guaranteed disaster hires.

Because they joined the coaching search so late, they didn't have time to take some big swings of their own.
They had to "go get 'em" before Virginia Tech did.

Literally whoever we hire will be the best football coach LSU has had since December 2004

That's a reasonable, well measured take.

Best thing about Billy Napier. He is 100% CLASS ACT.

I like how apparently Scott Woodward is the only AD who apparently can plan and keep his cards close to his chest.
For all you know, Scott Stricklin has been informally talking to Napier (and others) for the past month.

This is the same guy that apparently punched his boss in the face the one year he was a coordinator because he got overruled.

He actually did do it. There’s no apparently about it.

Stoops and O Brien are definitely serious candidates at this point and are definitely not better than early career Les Miles.

I’ve always wanted to punch Dabo myself

Punching Dabo in the face speaks well for his character.

Are they really? Why, because you and some other message board chicken littles say so? You people all sound like parrots constantly chirping the same BS. Nobody knows who Woodward is dealing with and you won’t know until he tells you so pull the rope from around your necks and chill TF out.

Mullen still had a job until a week ago, so if they were 100% committed to firing him a month ago, they would've done it when they canned the OC and DC.
Stricklin waited until the last minute to finally make a move. Probably because he heard through backchannels that LSU never contacted Napier and he was available.

That might be the best one that portrays what actually happened.

Florida will be searching for another coach in 3 years.

Or, he didn't because then you don't have journalists crawling all over, each sending out contradictory hot takes of what their sources tell them, and potentially compromise the process.
Sound familiar?
Its funny that you are speaking as if its odd to let them keep playing when they are committed to firing...when LSU did the same thing. The choice was made weeks before it was announced.
Also, why are you speaking as if 100% committed is a prerequisite? Nothing precludes quietly putting out feelers and starting a dialogue. You aren't committed at that point, and if there is no one you like now, you can wait another year.
