Anything new with this situation? Is Stoops definitely going to be the DC?

Auburn is hopeful an agreement can be reached with Stoops to become the Tigers' new defensive coordinator, but that has yet to happen. Negotiations/talks between Auburn and Stoops, whether directly or indirectly, continue. Sources still believe Stoops-to-Auburn is more likely to happen than not, but Florida State will do all it can to keep him.

I think we get Stoops if Gene sets aside his pride of wanting to run his own defense.

As for OC, I wonder who we get and which recruits leave...

As guys have assured me that whoever gene hires will be a good auburn man and a perfect fit for the family. And even if we get a middle of the road guy chiz tutelage will make him great...forget that roof sucked...

So that's a big relief.

Some think a double announcement could be made by Auburn on Wednesday. It would include the confirmation of Gus Malzahn's departure, as well as the naming of a new defensive coordinator. Negotiations between Auburn and Florida State's Mark Stoops appear to be nearing an end, and it continues to look like an agreement will be reached. Some think an announcement could come as early as Wednesday.

I still think Nebraska is talking to him. I think that's why this hasn't moved faster.

TTsTowel - where did you see the above quote? I think, unless something is different within the past 12 hours, this is inaccurate. I don't expect Stoops to take the job unless a boat pile of money is thrown his way. I think AU ends up with Whitt, JR, or a name that isn't out there yet.

Colin Cowherd just said 1.1 million is the offer....I would consider that a "boat pile"

It was Justin Hoke, Auburn insider. This is from another insider...

Someone apparently got this from an FSU board and posted it on Rivals:

"From FSU site: Wed, 10am update - We are trying to get some confirmation from a trusted source but there is more and more scuttlebutt that the situation with Mark Stoops may have changed.
Several Auburn insiders, including the publisher of AuburnSports.com, believe a deal is very close to being reached to secure Stoops at the new defensive coordinator.

Earlier in the week all indications were that Stoops was staying put and that a raise might be in order. However, we've been told that Auburn raised its initial offer and that it could now be in the seven-digit range. If this is the case, you can't blame him for leaving because there's no way FSU will come close to matching that kind of an offer for a coordinator.

Keep in mind most of this is coming from Auburn but there are some in the FSU camp that have heard likewise.

We will continue to update this situation throughout the day."

That is, indeed, a "boat pile" of money.

It would represent nearly 3x his current salary of $450K. Wouldn't think you'd have to go that high to get him.

with a sinking ship like this expect him to demand 3x that.

I'm sure fsu matched the initial offer (around 850k ) so if the next AU offer is truly 1.1m, it isn't too crazy of a second offer if it is incentive based.
