Just put that in the Withers thread. I was on the Whitt Jr bandwagon but this would be a great hire imo.

Auburn's Coordinators make almost the same as new Ole Miss HC Hugh Freeze.

At first I thought this said Mike instead of Mark...nevermind. Great hire for y'all, hope we can get his brother and make our games a family affair

Good hire but he is going into a difficult situation. Auburn's defensive struggles since going to a spread offense are not due entirely to bad coaching or lack of talent.

Disagree. He will be in a GREAT situation. Coming in for bowl practices and then spring, will give lots of time to adjust to his schemes before fall practice starts next year. Pretty much the entire defense returns. The defense would be drastically improved even under Roof next year. If Stoops does a halfway decent job, the defense is going to be much better no matter what and he will be there to get the credit.

I think that he is saying that because of your team running the spread, you will always have a difficult time having a great defense. Being able to have long sustained drives makes a DC's job much easier.

I understand that, but Malzhan showed a willingness to slow down the offense this past year when need be as well.

A good defense that goes 3 and out doesn't have to worry about that.

Tired, worn out defenses don't cause many 3 and outs.

From J Lee:

Nothing has been confirmed at this point, but several people close to the situation believe Auburn has offered the defensive coordinator position to Florida State's Mark Stoops, and he has accepted. I'm working to get confirmation and will post any new info, but Stoops-to-Auburn is picking up a lot of momentum.

You could argue that in the 4th quarter, but we've had a hard time stopping people on their opening drives the last three years. And as I've stated before. We're averaging the same number of plays per game as we were during the tubby years.
