Looking at A&M and its opening, what are really the advantages for an up and comer to take the job for mediocre salary and based ok incentives?

It’s not the best program in the state. UT has now taken that mantle.

No longer is the lone SEC team from Texas, so that is no advantage.

They have a great NIL system but that likely is to be diminished once actual limitations/rules for NIL are put in place.

An incentive-laden contract that likely isn’t t be met without some serious luck while other schools are willing to pay more guaranteed money.

Talent in Texas is great but is getting split in significantly among multiple teams including UT, OU, LSU, A&M, etc.

A culture that is honesty a turn off to many coaches.

In the end, other than a ridiculous overpay like the l’y did with Jimbo, what is bringing anyone to there now with all major advantages like my gone or on the way out?

Now? Since when was Texas not "the" program in TX?

They always have but A&M had the SEC chip going for it. Not anymore.

So your “honest” assessment is there is essentially nothing appealing about the A&M job? Doesn’t sound biased at all…..

If you are not guaranteeing reasonable money to match others, there is nothing to put A&M above the others. They have potential but they aren’t some diamond in the rough.

Your AD basically said A&M is too good to pay like other schools and the new coach has to earn it. Why would I take a job where I am not given the same contract benefits as other equal or better places would offer?

It’s not the best job like Aggies make it seem but it also isn’t the worst job like OP is making it seem.

It’s definitely behind Texas, Georgia, Florida, OU and LSU but ahead of Arkansas, Ole Miss, Auburn and South Carolina. It’s a mid tier SEC job. But that doesn’t mean they’re incapable of winning a title. Especially in an expanded CFP.

I think it’s one of the better jobs in America honestly. All trolling aside, their lack of success over the years is baffling given the resources and support

Where did I say it was the worst job? I said why would someone take it without guaranteed money that other, equal or better, programs are offering?

This is more about their plan to have an incentive-laden deal rather than a strong offer because the same AD stupidly overpaid Jimbo.

In the end, Björk should not have been allowed to stay in to make this hire seeing as he is the guy the gave Jimbo the extension in the first place.

We have more money than any team except possibly Texas. We have better facilities than any SEC team. We sit in the middle of a triangle of talent in Texas. Just need the right coach

We had the right coach once but were too chicken to tell the NCAA to pound sand.

Make no mistake, the boosters gave Fisher the extension

A coach's agent is gonna ask for as much as Jimbo got. Else, the logic is obvious,'if you don't think my guy is better than the guy you fired, why are you firing Jimbo to hire TBD?'

You didn’t say that in your original post but generically this statement is meaningless because it’s true of every program. Why would any coach go to LSU if an equal or better program is offering? And before you respond, yes there are in fact better programs than LSU.

This actually shows me that A&M has finally learned something. They have been throwing hundreds of millions at their program the past decade and have zero results to show for it all.

Money isnt the answer here. They already have the facilities and NIL. Hire a young coach and let him build the hard way. If he doesnt work out, fire him and find another young coach. Keep trying until you find the right combination.

The absolute worst thing they could do is pay $120 million for a lazy Dabo or apathetic Urban or overpay Lanning when he doesnt want to be there.

IT took $76 million but it sounds like they learned their lesson.

When did LSU’s AD publicly state that he wasn’t going to pay market value for a coach?

Your AD is the moron that made that statement and did so because he is the idiot that gave Jimbo the extension to begin with.

Aggie’s needed to fire Bjork before firing Jimbo for this search to actually look like a change in the right direction.

Here is what he actually said
quote:

“We have to get the contract right,” Bjork stated. “We can’t do what we did before. … So we have level set with everybody that we have talked to. Here are the parameters. Here is the structure.”

Not that we are refusing to pay market value. Jimbo’s contract was unprecedented in the amount of guaranteed money and it’s obvious we aren’t doing that again. I’m not a huge Bjork fan but there’s no reason to make things up

Bjork keeps saying “We”. He is the one that gave the contract. No one else gave Jimbo that contract.

It was still stupid of him to make any comments about the contract expectations when he is the moron that gave the stupid one in the first place.

The boosters had plenty of influence in the extension as well. Nobody on here knows where the majority of the blame should lie but it’s definitely not just him. That’s one of the issues with our program in the first place
