Now? Since when was Texas not "the" program in TX?

Texas hasn’t been that great recently

But it’s hard to be a great coaching job when you play LSU and Alabama every year…

We have more money than any team except possibly Texas. We have better facilities than any SEC team. We sit in the middle of a triangle of talent in Texas. Just need the right coach

Meh, your facilities are as good as anybody but probably not better. The right coach isn't gonna do anything until the oil men get out of the athletic dept.

Back then the NCAA didn't "pound sand". I agree Sherrill was the best coach but back then the NCAA actually punished programs and if you kept Sherrill it would have been 30 scholarships over 3 years and a 3 year bowl ban.

It’s not the best program in the state. UT has now taken that mantle.

UT has always had that mantle, bar none.

Plus Baylor, Tech, TCU, and SMU

Then you have Rice and UNT and Texas State

After that we can discuss where A&M is versus Sam Houston and Abilene

Never get rid of a coach, unless you have one better lined up. A good AD knows the direction he’s heading.

I live in Texas. For the past 10 or 12 years Texas has been in a down cycle. They had 2 bad coaches in Strong and Herman. For whatever reasons, A&M going to the SEC in 2012 really kind of shook them.

Texas will always be the best in TX. It’s like if Bama lost 10:in a row to Auburn. They would still own the title as best in the state due to history! UT is 76-37-5 so Aggies ain’t catching up anytime soon, probably never.

Aggies hiring Day after he's fired by OSU sounds like something Aggie would do.

That would be a great hire for a&m. I just don't see Ohio state firing day if he loses to Michigan.

Maybe his seat would get a little hot.

History don’t mean that much… if Bama lost 10 in a row to Auburn they’d have serious work to do to get back on top
