This proves absolutely nothing. We had 2 years of putrid offense and at the very least Les tolerated it a year too long. The only thing that will prove anything are on the field results of the offense. No disrespect to RC Slocum but he can't tell the future. It remains to be seen how/if Miles and Krags will work well together. Anything anybody says is speculation.

One thing it proves is that Krag will be more instrumental in recruiting, something GC didn't bring to the table...
Midland Lee turns out some very good football players, and to have your old college room mate coaching there will open quite a few doors. Couple that with his connections in and around Dallas and Houston, and we can pilfer more and more Tejas talent.
Give the guy a shot and let's see what he can do. If he sucks then break out the pitch forks and torches, but don't keep them at the ready before the guy has even implemented a single play...

RC's last four years were mediocre. Recruiting tailed off -- Mack Brown was getting the best in the state. They wouldn't have been any better over the last few years if he had stuck around. Plus the Coach Fran hire looked like a HR at the time.

im starting to believe that it is physically impossible for you to say anything positive when it comes to anything remotely related to Les Miles

R.C. Slocum is a gentleman in every sense of the word. So much so that former President George H.W. Bush called Skip to put in a plug for Slocum as head coach at LSU after Little Nicky dumped us for the Dolphins.

Slocum wasn't born in Orange, Tx like that article says he was born in Oakdale, La and his family moved to Orange a year later...

I don't necessarily agree, The good news for RC is he got fired before he had a losing season. But the program was sliding. They were not recruiting anywhere near what Texas and OU were. The glory years for RC was in the 90's when UT, OU and LSU were all bad. By 2002 all 3 were back. Also they were losing to Texas and Tech pretty much every year.
They were 4-8 the year after RC was fired. Fran was 10-3 at Alabama the year before. Did he some how forget how to coach, or was the talent maybe not up to par? Its easy to say with 20/20 hindsight that they should have kept RC, but would he have done much better than Fran? Impossible to say for sure, at best, maybe he would have done marginally better, but I don't see any reason to think he would have come close to where he was in the 90's.

You must not have been paying attention at the time. Compare his last four years to what he accomplished during his first seven when he won three SWC titles, finished in the top 10 three times and once went undefeated. It was abundantly clear that A&M was declining as, like I said, recruiting tailed off and competition became more difficult with the inception of the Big XII. I'm sorry, but 8-4, 7-5, 8-4 and 6-6 doesn't cut after you've been competing for national titles.
Acknowledging there was obviously a decline during his last four years isn't "running down Slocum." It was pretty obvious that if he had stayed, things weren't going to get better. One of those losing seasons that occurred after he left was in 2003, his first year out, when Franchione inherited a team whose talent level was pretty poor. If the Aggies wanted remain competitive to in the Big XII, they needed to make a change. At the time, everyone thought Franchione was a HR hire and the right move.
