I've never heard this story, even now as I sit through our botched search, thats tough to read about.

Cowboys

Why was this a bad coaching search? It's peak Jerry Jones. The Cowboys were done for the year, but everyone was still talking about them b/c of the coaching search. When it was all said and done, they were the 2nd NFL team to grab their new HC. The search lasted less than a week. The rest of it was a show for the brand. Anyone with a brain knew Garrett was gone. Hell they openly said they weren't renewing his contract 3-4 weeks ago.

I remember y'all sending the OM jet out to California to pick up Dennis Erickson or some big name and came home with Ed Orgeron.

quote:

“I got him in a stance,” Orgeron said. “Taught him some drills, showed my enthusiasm. I felt during the interview that Chancellor Khayat and I made a connection, that we related. “Dennis Erickson was another candidate. They went out there to California. Something didn’t go right. They called me and said, ‘We want to come pick up our new head coach.’”

I had forgotten about the rick search. I remember him almost being hired but didn’t know the rest.

Mike McCarthy is a good hire

The way I interpreted the OP was that the actual search ended up being a shite show not so much the actual coach that was hired. McCarthy is not a bad coach at all and indeed does have a ring but he's also not the sexiest hire either. A safe bet if you will.

Nothing will ever top the Dennis Franchione >>>> Mike Price>>>> Mike Shula saga.

But most here are probably too young to recall it.

If McCarthy picks up with his archaic system he’ll have the same shite show he did at the end of his Green Bay tenure. Cowboys needed someone dynamic with fresh ideas to run a current NFL system. Maybe McCarthy has learned his lesson, we’ll see. He may be stubborn like Les Miles.

Don’t think Miles is in this category anymore. Did you see his offense last year?

Absolutely agree, but in hindsight, the Vols fanbase was correct.

Schiano would've been a disaster at UT

The fact that LSU and Tennessee seem to have ended up with good coaching results tells you what a crap shoot coaching searches are.

Several news folks were reporting around mid season this year after talking with him about how the year away from coaching seemed to have really helped him. I guess we'll see, esp since he's keeping Kellen on board.

Mike Price
I've always felt a connection with the Price saga because it happened in my hometown. In fact when I learned of his indiscretions I was sitting in my office looking out the window at the hotel where they occurred.

What I remember about the whole fiasco that brought me the most enjoyment was how the national media referred to Arety's Angels, the place where Price met his Destiny (pun intended, of course) as "a gentleman's club in the Gulfside Florida resort town of Pensacola" as though it was a swanky lounge for wealthy businessmen on the beach.

In reality it's a nasty dive in the parking lot of an industrial park, literally a stone's throw away from an EPA superfund site

Shortly after Price was dismissed, the sign on the side of the building read "HOME OF THE 10 MILLION DOLLAR LAP DANCE". True story.

Yes. Also, our search for a DC is pretty much a shite show too, if that's eligible.
