He’s a hot name right now and tearing it up within the same state so I’d assume he already understands what it takes to recruit in Louisiana. What’s y’all’s feelings on him?

Yes. He falls into the group of guys that fits what I’m looking for.

So you guys aren’t looking for another big time coach like Kelly the last time? I kinda figured you guys would focus on another P4 coach. Someone like Kiffin (ofc), or the guy at Georgia tech.

With how much LSU is going to be paying a pile of coaches to not coach at LSU anymore, I’m not sure they really have the luxury of big game hunting this time.

Alright thanks. That’s unfortunate for Arkansas hoped we would be looking in different markets

I’ve watched him since he was at Troy.

Great coach, has done well at Tulane and his players play their arse off for him.

Absolutely not. Looking anywhere in the G5 will be a monumental mistake. I'd rather take an upper tier P5 coordinator. Ideally, we poach a HC who is overachieving at a mid tier P5 school.

Depends on who is doing the hiring

If it’s Scott Woodward, Jon ain’t on the list

If it’s Governor Landry, he’s probably a top choice

Well it depends who you ask. But for me (and imo most people) we are looking for an up and comer. The thing about Kelly is that it’s clear he wasn’t really in the grind, he didn’t really get what this was all about. What I want mostly in order is:

1) someone young and hungry who I KNOW is gonna grind their arse off
2) someone who is gonna bring schematic advantage (preferably offense but I’d take defense too if it’s truly good)
3) someone who is adept at navigating NIL, portal and HS recruiting. Bonus points if experience in Louisiana. This one is 3rd because Thomas will manage a lot of this but I definitely want some experience.

Sumrall checks most of these boxes

Let's all learn how to spell his name since it's going to be mentioned 1000 times over the next month. It's "Jon Sumrall."

How so? Napier was only a HC for 4 years

Same time as Sumrall. Napier did it at ULL which is similar to Troy, his first job.

He's now doing it at Tulane, a step up from both

This is the qualification most Ranters seem to want now. An over correction from BK’s extensive experience

I wouldn’t say it’s what they “want” it’s just the reality of the coaching market. There are no intriguing big names outside of Kiffin that are even remotely a possibility, and Kiffin is a major long shot.

The realistic options are a tier 2 or lower HC, or an upper tier coordinator looking to make the jump.

I think the first few names on the list will be current P4 coaches. If things don't work out there, I absolutely think Sumrall would be in play

He's nobody's first choice but he's definitely a candidate.

I would have no problem with this at all. Younger guy with fire. Players like him and he plays the portal well

I don't know crap about any of these guys really, but he seems like a good coach.

On the other hand, very little P5 experience. That makes hiring him more risky to me. I would make others say no first.
