Sexton played him like a fiddle.

Ole Miss isn't playing a CCG this week.
Which is precisely why Ole Miss should’ve made a statement that said if we play in the championship game Lane coaches if not, he will be leaving for LSU. It would’ve been so much easier so much cleaner and not burn down the program in the midst of it.

He should’ve gotten the point months ago that Lane was holding out for another job when he wouldn’t sign the extension

Look at Tulane. Doing it right.
Tulane and Ole Miss are in completely different situations.
Tulane lost its coach to a P4 school and for a lot more money.
Ole Miss is presumably losing their coach to a rival in the midst of a playoff run.
Apples and hand grenades.

You're right. He should pay Lane to be LSU's coach. Makes perfect sense.

Kiffin held them hostage
This is so stupid. Kiffin didn’t hold anyone “hostage”. OM, LSU and even Florida all had a choice in this matter. Florida moved on, which was smart. OM could have shown Kiffin the door as soon as he wouldn’t commit, but they didn’t. That’s on them. LSU kept pursuing, and got what they wanted. Everyone had a choice. OM clearly made the wrong one.

Ole Miss AD should be fired

I don't know about fired, but definitely criticized. You do everything possible to keep Kiffin, but you have to know he is probably leaving. OM would have wise to have Sumrall lined up already.
Posted on 11/30/25 at 11:37 am to Mrtommorrow1987
Why?
He cant force Kiffin to stay at OM. Kiffin has wanted LSU since Fat Woody snubbed him. The job came open again, So hes leaving. Due to the calendar, everyone is under the gun
If LSU allows him to wait 3+ weeks, then Verge is stupid

Let me coach the team in playoffs and in parallel find new coaches???
Posted on 11/30/25 at 11:43 am to rpg37
quote:well, instead of giving Lane a deadline, he should've told Lane, "you can coach this team as long as y'all go in the postseason. But, I need to know if you're leaving so we can hire a replacement."
What the frick was he supposed to do differently?
Then, you negotiate with him, let him announce he's going to LSU, let him coach out, all the while you aren't letting other teams hire the best of the remaining coaches available.
This didn't have to be hard. But, Ole Miss thinks they're a blue blood, got their feelings hurt and now they're program is in shambles.

let him announce he's going to LSU, let him coach out,
These two things are completely incompatible. Where do you work that your boss would let you work for a month after you told them you were going to work for a competitor?

you think OM is going to fire one of their all time winningest coaches right before the first playoff appearance when LK is telling them behind the scenes he hasn’t made up his mind and may stay. Get real.
Get real?? What good did it do them? As soon as he wouldn’t commit, they should have known he was leaving. They had two choices: 1. Show him the door. 2. Let him coach through the playoffs. But instead, they drug this out to the benefit of no one at OM, and now their situation is far worse.

You LSU folks have some really warped sense of logic. Seriously, what was the Mississippi athletic director supposed to do? Can't wait for the lane homo dance videos with your players like BK did when he came on board.

This is the misconception.
The ONIY difference between the Tulane program and Ole Miss football team is that Tulane left the SEC years ago.
They are the same program. OM isn’t relevant long term, but they think they are.
They cared more about playing in 1 playoff than they did continuation of a program and now they’re burning it to the ground heel cause they didn’t want LSU getting the notoriety of announcing LK to LSU.
Tulane has a chance to be in the playoffs just like OM.
Tulane and OM situation is exactly the same. It’s just people who are over convinced of the brilliance of OM that think otherwise.
I get they’re mad, doesn’t change the situation and their response just. Made. It. Worse.
