If they lose Riley and then start SEC play with a new coach... It's going to be tough. Anyone else old enough to remember when Arkansas was good was back when they were in the Southwest conference, then they came to the SEC and wow what a difference.

They won 13 conference championships in the SWC, not one yet in the SEC. They would lose at most one game a year in conference, 1-2 games a year overall when in that conference and then starting in 1991 with the SEC they hit rough going.

Oklahoma has had a good run, but it looks like it may all be coming to a close, for good. Thank God, that fight song is the worst.

So maybe they become Nebraska? Changing conferences doesn't always work out like it did for A&M. If they lose Riley and don't get a big name replacement they may suck for a long time.

We got lucky coming in with Kingsbury, Johnny, Mike Evans, Swope and an offensive line where every starter went to the NFL. And a defense full of seniors...

Arky is better than Chokelahomo most years. If OU played Arkys schedule they wouldn’t be better than .500 over the past decade. That’s a fact.

Pretty sure that some of the concern is the restructuring of the SEC once OU and Texas become members. I think it could mean that
Texas, OU, Arky and aTm/Mizzou in West 1
Missouri/aTm, LSU, OM and MS St. in West 2
UK, uSC, UF and UGA in East 1
Bama, AU, Vandy and UT in East 2

Now is the time to go before the blood shed begins. Go now to a SEC power that has been sleep walking and still winning NCs. It will tough for OU with Riley there.

Not trying to start shite, but please tell me how it’s worked out well for aTm? You haven’t won anything of significance besides a couple games you probably shouldn’t have. How many NC’s, how many playoff appearances, how many SEC championships, how many SEC west championship?

I don't see Oklahoma becoming Nebraska. Nebraska isn't very close to fertile recruiting grounds, but OU is much closer to Texas and talent there, and still pulls kids nationally.

The difference is that Arkansas was playing in a conference where they were the only non-Texas school. They found it much harder to get the same caliber of Texas kids once they stopped playing so many games in Texas.

Oklahoma was getting top talent from north Texas long before the formation of the big 12. They have relationships with many of those high schools that go back decades. The move to the SEC will not all of a sudden drop them below UT, ATM, or Ark.

It is silly to discount Oklahoma's history, success as a football program, track record of recruiting the state of Texas, etc. It is equally silly to assume that everything will immediately become harder for them by changing conference affiliation.

They will have a tougher in conference schedule week in and week out. I expect them to carry a few more losses on their record and not get the benefit of being an undefeated Big12 champ. That doesn't mean they will suddenly be incapable of competing.

Imagine recruiting as OU now and saying you get to go up against Alabama, LSU, Auburn, etc instead of Texas Tech, Baylor, and TCU. They get some boosts by being in the SEC when it comes to recruiting. If anything it raises their recruiting profile.

I think it's fair to expect them to compete at a higher level than Missouri and A&M because they always have. Expect them to be a tough opponent every year and be in the conversation for SEC championships more years than they aren't. They are not a scrub program.

And yes, expect LSU to constantly put them in their place. :)

A decade of mediocrity?

I assume most schools switching conferences hope it doesn’t work out for them like it did for A&M.

Arkansas has been to the SEC championship game more than several OG SEC members have.

But yet everyone is jerking each other off over the thought of Lincoln Riley. So you want to give him the same schedule as Arkansas and expect much better results? LSU doesn't have that much of a talent advantage over Oklahoma most years.

Oklahoma is going to struggle in the SEC.

They aren’t built for the weekly grind of this conference.
