Am I serious that 2020 Baylor is a better program than 2005 Ole Miss? Yes, 100%.
I was referring to 2016 LSU. Ole Miss was straight up garbage and Orgeron didn’t help it out any. Shitty coach and he said it himself.

Even so, following Saban will be the most thankless job in the history of sports

At alabama no less

That fanbase is going to go absolutely apeshit if they have back to back 10-2 seasons

I pray that they do let him handpick his successor. When he left LSU he recommended that they hire Houston Nutt.

Come on, that was pure genius.
He was 2 steps ahead. If he wanted to come back, they would shank a mediocre half arse like Nutt in a heartbeat.

Napier would be a good pickup at Bama. I've always thought he was just waiting to go to either LSU or Bama. Seemed like it made the most sense.

Well, we are about to find out how well connected you are. I gotta give you props for putting your neck out on the line with that one.

That part is definitely not true. But it doesn’t mean the rest of it isn’t.

I am just passing along info that was told. I am not sticking my head out on this.

The ULL backer did appear very nervous. He had been talking smack all night about what ULL was becoming. After a phone call that all changed.

I have no inside to ULL admin just a close friend that is a larger backer. I am just passing along info.

I think Coach Napier is awesome. What he's done with our football program in three years is something I wouldn't have imagined, especially when you realize how bare Hud left the fridge for him. Hud was handed a MUCH better locker room from Bustle than what he passed on to Napier.

That said, I just can't imagine Alabama boosters being happy with handing the keys to the program with someone with Coach Napier's current resume. If he puts the Cajuns in a NY6 Bowl or Top 15 finish next season, in a year that's hopefully not so jacked up, then maybe so.

well, I don't know what Bama will or will not do, but I do know that Napier will be at UL next year, and will not decide to leave until he does things you mentioned: winning the conf outright, top 15 and/or NY6 bowl, etc.

You would think, but with likely winning a title this year and losing lots of players and coaches, it seems like this year makes the most sense.

If he was going to leave, you think he wouldn't want to break in a new QB and OC.

Which tells me he isn't leaving any time soon.

He will be at bama another 3 to 5 seasons at least. I'm calling 5 minimum.

Probably not, but I’m not sure they’re gonna have much choice. Nobody they would be “happy” with would want any piece of that job no matter how much money they throw at em. Anybody they’d want is likely making $5 million (ish) where they’re currently at, and I can’t imagine an extra $5 million per is going to be worth the inevitable lower quality of life. Why would they subject their family to it? They could literally turn out to be the 3rd best college football coach of all time, and they would still be hated because they aren’t Saban or Bear.

Bama’s best play will be to hire a good, young guy that hasn’t failed anywhere yet (and hasn’t gotten paid at this level yet), that has been around the Saban machine a year or 2 to see how it works, but most importantly, one that Saban will personally tap and enthusiastically endorse. Well, as enthusiastically as he’s capable of.
