O is not Mike Archer, and this is not remotely like the Mike Archer situation.

What made Mike Archer a bad coach was his inability and/or refusal to recruit. He hated recruiting, and he couldn't do it. As an assistant his recruiting responsibilities were outside of Louisiana (mainly Florida) and when he got the head job he had no network in-state to tap into and build on. He was also uninspiring and could not motivate his players. He was a good defensive coordinator though, and should have stayed as one.
Orgeron recruits the pants off of just about anybody. His network is deep and wide. Recruiting under Orgeron would likely improve over Miles.
For people who say "LSU recruits itself," you are morons.

Is anyone really trying to compare LSU football in 1987 to now? This program is light years ahead of where it was 30 years ago.
You can't compare what happened with Archer with what could happen with O. It's a different age and the program is in a different position.
To be fair, I'm not a fan of those who say hiring O would be going back to the pre-Saban ways of the program either. I want the best coach for the long term success of the program and I personally don't think that is O. Not because of what happened 30 years ago, but because of the state of the program TODAY. This is an elite program and they should have an elite head coach, period.

Archer was too young but was a good DC and terrible recruiter like you said. O is a good recruiter but even less of a schematic coach.
But i think both lack the management skills, the attention to detail, and the resume to deserve the LSU gig. Sure if O wins out that would change his resume a bit.

I think he's just calling out all the anti O melt that's been happening in spades lately.

well that's the point. Who are these "elite" coaches you speak of specifically?
Saban, Harbaugh, and Meyer are elite no doubt. But who are all these elite coaches everyone keeps talking about? So far I haven't seen even one linked to the LSU HC search. Sean Paytons not coming here.
Fisher, Fleck, Herman, Fedora, and coach O really aren't elite. (if LSU wins out the rest of the season and winds up in the playoffs and wins it all, then I guess coach O would be considered elite, but that's not going to happpen)
I want someone to name these ELITE COACHES everyone keeps talking about that want to coach at LSU? Who the frick are they?

did you not embarrass yourself enough from your thread over the weekend?

uh, Miles' main flaw was not being able to recruit elite QBs. We're back to square one with a guy that can stack the team with NFL recruits, but cant get a guy to lead them. Link me the elite QBs that O has secured as a recruiter.
I'll hang up and listen

Actually it's worse than the Archer situation

First off, from a resume perspective, O isn't in the same stratosphere as the others you list.

So O winning out would make him elite, but Fisher isn't already elite since he's won an NC and 3 ACCs?
That's ridiculous.
