Notre Dame will be led by 35 year old Marcus Freeman who’ll have a 29 year old offensive coordinator in Tommy Rees. Players fired up. New era, new vibe in South Bend.

Could work, couldn’t work.

Who knows.

Great. Being in the playoff hunt every year gets old I’d imagine. They needed a change

Glad we could help them out

A first time HC with limited coordinator experience and a second year OC who has never run his own offense. I see this ending well. What could possibly go wrong?

Literally only one change happened.

And we still don’t know if this is just another Bobby Williams.

Congrats to ND on all that but I don’t think anybody here honestly gives a shite about them. Thanks for the coach though

Welcome to your first head coaching job! To get your feet wet you can coach against Georgia in the playoffs!

Funny how angry and vindictive they are about Kelly leaving. I hope it fires him up. He had 12 really successful years in South Bend and left them in excellent shape with excellent coaches and they're still angry.

Absolutely

Since those young coordinators were really the ones responsible for notre dames success the last 12 years they should absolutely have no problem maintaining what Kelly built and had going.

Can’t wait to see how it all plays out

ND did what they felt they needed. Rarely does a staff member move up work out long term that I can recall. I'm sure they're out there but the numbers over time % wise would be a no go.

Nothing is guaranteed. Brian Kelly to LSU is nothing short of the best hire they could make. Doesn't mean its guaranteed to work.

Same with ND. No guarantee it WON'T work but odds lean that way imo

Not to say Freeman will be another Williams, just that no one knows, like you said.

Maybe he’s a Phil Fulmer.

It’s completely understandable. They are sitting at 11-1 and have a great shot to slide into the CFP.

LOL. Notre Dame hasn’t played a game yet. Some sportswriters are clowns. Mike Archer was in his mid-30s when he got the LSU job. That good, energetic vibe lasted about 2 years and then the program went into the toilet. Careful for what you wish, Notre Dame.

Yeah but Freeman is by all accounts a good recruiter and inspiring leader. Archer was very much not. We'll see.

It’s like they don’t remember Bob Davie at all.

We saw this mistake here before also with Mike Archer. He was the players’ choice and I think kept most of the staff . Young up and coming defensive coordinator was handed a solid program as his first head coaching job. He had no clue about recruiting and crashed and burned.

ND is being short sighted and making a mistake not hiring Fickell.

Interesting that Archer coached a long time after but never been a HC again. Maybe he decided he was better suited as a DC.

I get Freeman is a great coach, don't get me wrong. But he's a first time HC taking the job in South Bend....

That's a TALL order for any coach, let alone a rookie HC.

I think he'll ultimately do well, but I expect there will be a drop off from Kelly, at least for the first few years.
