For over a decade now, Notre Dame has had an unlikeable, a-hole of a coach (Charlie Weis and Brian Kelly). Notre Dame, for once, needs to part with the smugness and hire a compelling winner. The program needs a new direction and to save face.

While I believe there are better coaches out there, Miles' ability to recruit and to field a competitive, winning football team should be enough for Notre Dame to sign him up. They may not be competing for the playoffs every year, but I think Miles is good enough to always have them winning 7+ games.

If Notre Dame is content with that result then hiring Miles is certainly an option....God Bless Them.

Given his age, he wouldn't be there long. They need a positive, likable coach that can turn the ship into the right direction.

Nd fans would be trying to burn his house down once they got to see his offense. Minus Purdue fans nonbody actually wants miles to come coach their team. It's always other fans saying he should go to a certain school.

I can absolutely picture Les in the living rooms of Mr. and Mrs. Belinski, Glodowski, etc.

As most people know, ND will never be relevant until they lower their academic standards for athletes.

Lou Holtz left when they increased the academic standards.

Notre Dame SHOULD try and coax Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern. Right age, right attitude and knows how to win at a school with high academic standards

Precisely. They need to accept mediocre results until the end of time so long as this stipulation exists.

They've been pretty relevant since Holtz left.

Not sure how great Miles would be at rebuilding. he's much better at taking over a top program and not quite tanking it.

How has Stanford been a top 10 program with higher academic standards?

It's a false canard and a crutch the media uses to explain poor program management.

We've given a lot of academic exceptions to Kelly, and our standards aren't that much higher than most power programs, anyway (typically, about 40 or 50 points on the SAT and one or two extra core classes in high school). We let Isaiah McKenzie in, and that kid barely qualified through the NCAA. We aren't quite FSU, but we aren't Stanford, either.

But we aren't hiring Les Miles, either. He wouldn't be the worst option in the world, but he's a bad fit culturally, and he's too old. People thinking that we'll hire Miles don't understand how our administration and Board of Trustees approach these things.
