Gruden took over a mess at Oakland and built a championship team, only to get screwed by the tuck rule. They were ready to take a knee at the end and headed straight to Super Bowl if it wasn't for that bs call.

Agreed and surely won't return to take a college gig.

I think he's the most over rated coach that TD is obsessed over. What did he do in Tampa that makes everyone salivate? He took over an already built team, and gave it the last push it needed to get over hump. He did good that year, but then the team slowly deteriorated on his watch.

this

I don't get the love for the guy. Plus he has the vocabulary of a five year old....different game/player same old worn out cliched statement

and again...please give me some real facts on what makes him such a hot commodity???

always someone else's fault.....

I'll take that as a "yes."

Thanks.

Tampa Bay lost their 2002 & 2003 first round draft picks and 2002 & 2004 second round draft picks in the deal with Davis.

Bill Parcels was slated to take over in Tampa Bay. He was persuaded not to take the job because of the salary cap problem.

That might be the ugliest championship ring I have ever seen... I hope he didn't design it.

If Gruden's going to end up at Tennessess, why not
-Fire Dooley effective the day after the last game of the season.
-Announce the hiring of Gruden shortly thereafter as he can leave MNF at any time
-Gruden starts recruiting on Dooley's last day

There has to be a line of people ready to kick the doors down in Bristol to the MNF gig so finding replacements would not be that big of a deal for ESPN

However, the Vol football program is on life support and the sooner they make a change the better

so how is Tampa Bay doing after Gruden? 17-31? Gruden IS the winningest coach in Bucs history.

besides, NFL is a grind and even the best coaches have career record right at .500

Pete Carroll has a losing record at the NFL and he didn't even come close to winning it all.

I think at this point there's an awful lot of smoke to this. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he takes that job.

I've heard way too many Gruden rumors over the years to be confident he's the guy. I'm not going to get my hopes up until he's being introduced as the head coach.

I would understand an argument for Gruden won't translate to the college game or he doesn't have the drive to succeed at recruiting.

But he was a successful NFL coach. The "he won with Dungy's players argument" is a clear case of selective reasoning considering he was playing against his team, and was traded for multiple draft picks, not fired from Oakland.

So how many Super Bowls did Dungy with his players at Tampa Bay? In Dungy's last three playoff games, Tampa Bay was offensively shut out. He got fired because of that.

vols fans, serious question: if chucky is so interested in tennessee from his grad asst days, how come he wasnt hired instead of dooley back in 2010? he was unemployed (as far as coaching goes) and dooley wasnt a very popular hire. what gives?
